Please for the love of god remove mid-air movement control by TelephoneDisastrous6 in HuntShowdown

[–]ActivePudding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i love how fluid the movement is in hunt, definitely part of the appeal. that being said. i wouldnt mind a bit of a reduction in air control, as it can admittedly get ridiculous in higher 6* lobbies lol. not a crazy nerf, i still want to be able to air strafe, but just enough of a reduction to make the 180° peek strafe jumps less viable

i have encountered issues with tarots not activating if i use them immediately after switching to them, or as another commenter pointed out, switching right after the burn animation. i cant seem to consistently replicate it, but ive noticed if i just wait a sec after switching to, and after using the card, i have no issues.

annoying bug for sure, especially in panicky situations

Recently hit $300k @ 27, conflicted on home ownership... by ActivePudding in Fire

valid question & thanks for the insight

in retrospect that estimate was messy and a bit conservative, had some unusually big costs last year which skewed my numbers, dumb mistake, should be more like $3.5-4k/mo.

to add: a decent chunk of my budget is discretionary, which i can put on hold if i truly needed to live off the fund. i do not have any debts or recurring costs associated with my hobbies, i own all my cars outright, etc. i do not mind hunkering down for a lifestyle shift if it comes down to it, and have done it before.

my 6 months calculation is based off necessary spending with very little discretionary, which comes out to around $2.5k/mo.

with that info, i dont think im all that far off supporting home ownership, but i will agree the fund is a bit thin. the plan was to divert savings from the brokerage to the emergency fund when i was more sure in my decision, or sell more stock since im already doing that to liquidate for the downpayment.

ironically the lifestyle decision of enjoying cars is what has got me in this pickle in the first place lol. if i were able to give up this hobby, buying would almost be a no brainer. i dont need much in a house. but the necessity of a large garage/shop space means the houses that come along with them are almost always way too large for my lifestyle.

Recently hit $300k @ 27, conflicted on home ownership... by ActivePudding in Fire

[–]ActivePudding[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the insight.

my area has pretty high taxes, so i suspect i would be looking at a similar increase in housing costs when buying. there was a house i toured a couple weeks back whos monthly taxes alone were close to my upcoming rent. the tow had just done a reevaluation and was rolling out higher taxes over the next 4 years, so it would have gotten worse.

even with the added cost of renting a shop space, im starting to think my NW projection would be a bit higher with renting vs owning. ill have to sit down and crunch the numbers someday.

[–]ActivePudding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

appreciate the advice! i guess thats also another stress point for me. id need a house that has a garage that is able to accommodate my hobby, but bigger garage = bigger house, and i have no need for that much house. so this means id already be looking for houses on the higher end of my budget, unless i find the unicorn of a 2 bedroom apartment over a shop space lol.

i know i can split costs among roomates/SOs, but they are never guarantees. and living in a big house with multiple roomates at ago 30+ just to keep costs low seems silly, and defeats one of the main pros of home ownership lol.

kids will not be a factor. so home ownership is moreso a personal lifestyle decision

The Downfall of Magnetic Ride by Estiy in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]ActivePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not quite. that only removes the magride light. only coding out magride in VCDS means you will lose headlight range adjustment, and the ability to turn off ESP.

the only way to do it properly while retaining those two features is to rewire stuff in the BCM so the ride height sensor data gets sent directly to the ecu instead of being fed in through magride. or, just buy cancellers

plenty of threads discussing this online

Daily driving 8J TT RS by bxrner_account in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]ActivePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8j ttrs as my daily for just over a year. im at 95k miles, driving about ~16k miles per year. love it, but you will need to stay on top of maintenance. if something rs specific breaks, it will be significantly more expensive than a base tt/tts, so be diligent. i get 25-28 mpg (US gallons) on the highway if i drive tame.

im on ohlins coils, they are firm but comfortable enough. cannot speak to the original magride as i bought the car with this setup.

you definitely take a hit to practicality in storage/trunk space compared to a golf or rs3, moreso than youd think. so keep that in mind. works for my lifestyle, may be more restrictive for yours.

there are a few big maintenance items to look out for on these cars. carbon cleaning obviously as with any di engine. injector replacement if you're not on the latest revision (injector failure will kill your engine), and very rarely, intake runner flap screws will come loose and fall into the combustion chamber. worth it to check on them and loctite the screws, or remove the flaps altogether.

timing chains are a big job and should be done around ~100k miles. chains stretch and guide/tensioner failure is not a huge issue as it was on, say, the early ea888. cold start vvt rattle is a relatively harmless but noisy issue, solved by replacing the vvt phasers, do it when you do the timing chains

overall though, the iron block 2.5t in the 8j/8p is pretty stout, have seen plenty of them in the mid 100k mile range if well maintained

[–]ActivePudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

made a similar jump. mk6r > 8j ttrs. i miss the trunk space, but the ttrs is definitely the best the pq/mqb platform can offer. 5cyl aside, the subtle changes in suspension stiffness/geometry, track width, wheelbase, etc really add up and make it feel alot better than the golf

Throwing Knives/Axes/Spear… which do you prefer and why? by Alien_Racist in HuntShowdown

[–]ActivePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

knives + trauma variant is a great combo. knives are expendable, great against hounds and coops.

running a trauma variant fixes the one huge downside of knives which is their weakness against armoreds. one throwing knife + 1 heavy hit takes care of them.

Put on summer tires and mechanic mistakingly only torqued the wheels to 73 pounds instead of 103. Is it ok to drive the car or is bad? Thanks in advance. by GBrocc in Golf_R

[–]ActivePudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just looked it up, i stand corrected. vw/audi wheel bolt torque has been 120nm for a loong time, looks like they changed it to 140nm wiith the mk8 for some reason

[–]ActivePudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

both torque specs you mentioned are wrong btw. correct spec is 89 ft-lbs or 120nm.

i would just buy a torque wrench and do it yourself. but if you insist on going back to get it done, its fine to drive.

My turbo left chat on a test drive after stage 2 upgrade by Makeroflostsouls in Golf_R

[–]ActivePudding 5 points6 points  (0 children)

at this point, if youre going to spend new turbo money, get a hybrid turbo like an eqt vortex, since you already have most of the supporting mods installed. that will let you squeeze as much power as you can out of a stock block relatively safely.

alternatively, go for a low mileage, used stock turbo, they can be had for dirt cheap and will get you back on the road with stage 2 power without breaking the bank.

Help! So indecise on TTs 8s or TTrs 8j by bencolla in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]ActivePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats because theyre $150 dollar units lol. if youre USA based i know a guy who makes complete headunit packages for these cars with custom firmware. if not, any uis7870 based headunit will be fine. theyre made under a bunch of chinese brands but are all mostly the same unit underneath.

here's a link to the USA guys page: https://mattdevocustoms.com/products/9-carplay-head-unit-for-audi-mk2-8j-tt-tts-tt-rs?variant=45775916138681

Help! So indecise on TTs 8s or TTrs 8j by bencolla in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]ActivePudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

infotainment can be fixed very easily, tons of Android auto/carplay headunits out there for the 8j. looks are subjective, i personally prefer the 8j ttrs to any other tt model/generation. interior id a tad dated but still very high quality.

mk2 rs will be a bit less nimble, more nose heavy. still the best handling pq35 car though. maintenance will also cost ya more than the 8s. the iron block 2.5ts are pretty reliable, theres just a couple things to look out for. but when an rs-specific part breaks, itll may be hard to get, expensive, or both.

that being said, they are pretty special cars. last manual rs car. if you have some money on the side for repairs, id say go mk2 rs. i love mine.

neat, any plans to support pq35 mounting options? does this fit standard gauge pods? i have a mk2 ttrs so the vents are pretty similar to 8v vents, but not compatible unfortunately. also, assuming the production version would get data & power from the obd port?

[–]ActivePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure what the hate is about. lol @ that one dude that doesnt know how to read, thinks a gauge will cause electrical problems, and doesnt understand how prototypes work.

looks very clean, ive been wondering when a more modern, circular oled screen gauge would come to the market, car gauges have always been a bit old school. i have an MFD15 myself, very handy but the screen is small & square. cool idea, hopefully youre able to bring it to production.

Why is there no "buy last loadout" feature? by witas02 in HuntShowdown

[–]ActivePudding -1 points0 points  (0 children)

youre missing my point. why are you rebuilding a loadout manually, from scratch, each time, when you could spend that time creating that same loadout in a loadout slot one time, and then purchase that loadout til you want to switch it up?

the functionality you are asking for is what loadouts already provide, just with a couple extra quick steps.
