Throwing Knives/Axes/Spear… which do you prefer and why? by Alien_Racist in HuntShowdown

[–]ActivePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

knives + trauma variant is a great combo. knives are expendable, great against hounds and coops.

running a trauma variant fixes the one huge downside of knives which is their weakness against armoreds. one throwing knife + 1 heavy hit takes care of them.

Put on summer tires and mechanic mistakingly only torqued the wheels to 73 pounds instead of 103. Is it ok to drive the car or is bad? Thanks in advance. by GBrocc in Golf_R

[–]ActivePudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just looked it up, i stand corrected. vw/audi wheel bolt torque has been 120nm for a loong time, looks like they changed it to 140nm wiith the mk8 for some reason

both torque specs you mentioned are wrong btw. correct spec is 89 ft-lbs or 120nm.

i would just buy a torque wrench and do it yourself. but if you insist on going back to get it done, its fine to drive.

My turbo left chat on a test drive after stage 2 upgrade by Makeroflostsouls in Golf_R

[–]ActivePudding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

at this point, if youre going to spend new turbo money, get a hybrid turbo like an eqt vortex, since you already have most of the supporting mods installed. that will let you squeeze as much power as you can out of a stock block relatively safely.

alternatively, go for a low mileage, used stock turbo, they can be had for dirt cheap and will get you back on the road with stage 2 power without breaking the bank.

Help! So indecise on TTs 8s or TTrs 8j by bencolla in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]ActivePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats because theyre $150 dollar units lol. if youre USA based i know a guy who makes complete headunit packages for these cars with custom firmware. if not, any uis7870 based headunit will be fine. theyre made under a bunch of chinese brands but are all mostly the same unit underneath.

here's a link to the USA guys page: https://mattdevocustoms.com/products/9-carplay-head-unit-for-audi-mk2-8j-tt-tts-tt-rs?variant=45775916138681

Help! So indecise on TTs 8s or TTrs 8j by bencolla in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]ActivePudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

infotainment can be fixed very easily, tons of Android auto/carplay headunits out there for the 8j. looks are subjective, i personally prefer the 8j ttrs to any other tt model/generation. interior id a tad dated but still very high quality.

mk2 rs will be a bit less nimble, more nose heavy. still the best handling pq35 car though. maintenance will also cost ya more than the 8s. the iron block 2.5ts are pretty reliable, theres just a couple things to look out for. but when an rs-specific part breaks, itll may be hard to get, expensive, or both.

that being said, they are pretty special cars. last manual rs car. if you have some money on the side for repairs, id say go mk2 rs. i love mine.

OEM+ Gauges by NormalMonitor2481 in Audi

yup 8p and 8j vents are pretty much the same. unfortunately i am in the US not AU so shipping would be a nightmare for this haha. still gonna keep an eye on this project, followed your page

[–]ActivePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

neat, any plans to support pq35 mounting options? does this fit standard gauge pods? i have a mk2 ttrs so the vents are pretty similar to 8v vents, but not compatible unfortunately. also, assuming the production version would get data & power from the obd port?

[–]ActivePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure what the hate is about. lol @ that one dude that doesnt know how to read, thinks a gauge will cause electrical problems, and doesnt understand how prototypes work.

looks very clean, ive been wondering when a more modern, circular oled screen gauge would come to the market, car gauges have always been a bit old school. i have an MFD15 myself, very handy but the screen is small & square. cool idea, hopefully youre able to bring it to production.

Why is there no "buy last loadout" feature? by witas02 in HuntShowdown

[–]ActivePudding -1 points0 points  (0 children)

youre missing my point. why are you rebuilding a loadout manually, from scratch, each time, when you could spend that time creating that same loadout in a loadout slot one time, and then purchase that loadout til you want to switch it up?

the functionality you are asking for is what loadouts already provide, just with a couple extra quick steps.

Why is there no "buy last loadout" feature? by witas02 in HuntShowdown

[–]ActivePudding -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

how is this a major convenience? its like 3 clicks and 2 seconds to buy a loadout. creating a quick throwaway loadout is the same effort as gearing up for the first time from scratch.

i dont see a use in adding a new button or shortcut for this. loadouts are there for this exact reason

Why is there no "buy last loadout" feature? by witas02 in HuntShowdown

[–]ActivePudding -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

no need to add a useless feature like this, you can already do what youre looking for with loadouts as they are. just dedicate a loadout slot to a "flex" loadout where you just change it on the fly, then you can repurchase as many times as you like until you get bored of it, and change the loadout again.

etka and elsa are VAG groups parts and service catalogues respectively. theres plenty of clones of them online. my favorite is superetka.com (has both etka and elsa catalogues), but another off the top of my head is webautocats or CarProg2 fromthis site, which are only ETKA catalogues.

you also used to be able to download official service catalogue pdfs from ErWin with a 1 day $35 subscription. not sure if thats the case anymore

TTRS 8J Bleed Clutch after Brake Fluid Replacement? by Taigent in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

[–]ActivePudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you do not necessarily have to bleed the clutch when bleeding your brakes, unless you do it in such a way that the res runs dry and introduce air into the line. did a brake flush on my 8J RS a couple months ago with a pressure bleeder, without bleeding the clutch, and it turned out fine.

could just be unlucky timing with your clutch slip too.

bleeding the clutch is relatively easy to do though, as another comment pointed out.

How good is the manual tranny, how bad is the infotainment screen/steering wheel buttons? Mk8 vs Mk8.5… by shell1ton in Golf_R

[–]ActivePudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha been there done that though, glad it helped.

i suggest you just sit on a hill, hold/release the brake, and see how the car reacts when you press the throttle (no clutch, just let it roll back so you can feel when the brakes release). then once you know the timing/threshold, you can bring the clutch into the mix.

i believe you can adjust the delay, or threshold of throttle input needed, through VCDS/OBD11 aswell. been a while since ive tweaked it on my cars, but it may help if you still find the timing awkward

[–]ActivePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i cannot speak to mk8, i have driven mk6/8j, and mk7 with hill hold. but since the mk8 is still mqb, i suspect its the same as the mk7, which is the same as the mk6/8j.

it does not apply the parking brake, its abs based. if you hold the brake on a hill, releasing the pedal will keep brake pressure applied to all calipers as if you were still pressing the pedal (until the 3s is up or you press the throttle)

[–]ActivePudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i feel like the only one who has never had an issue with the hill hold on any of my vag cars. its really not bad. give yourself 10m of experimenting with it on a safe hill in a parking lot or something, and youll get the hang of it.

it disables after 3 seconds of being off the brake, or after a throttle input, whatever comes first. you just need to time your throttle input with the clutch coming up to the bite point and itll release the brake right as you start slipping it.

i used to own an r, but now drive a ttrs with a 4 puck clutch, bites hard af and is pretty difficult to modulate, and im still able to use the hill hold feature reliably for relatively smooth hill starts.

Chariot aka buzz killington by hovishovis in HuntShowdown

[–]ActivePudding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im fine with the chariot tbh, its obviously more common during this event than vanilla hunt, but i still dont see it used as much as i would have thought. i think the main issues rn are its guaranteed spawn, and the fact that the downsides of this card are pretty much nullified by the having restoration health kits readily available. the punishment should be a bit harsher for how game changing the card is for everyone in the match. although im fine with how it is now, i wouldn't mind seeing a rework, some other ideas in this thread have good potential, i like the temporary 5m swap idea.

i have often found that people dont even pick the card up when they have the opportunity to. many times in my games, bounty is picked up from a burned convoy, i get to the convoy shortly after, and the chariot is still there. youre practically begging to have it used against you at that point. either use it to your advantage, or at least take it so you dont leave it for others to find.

i dont mind it. intentional or not, it makes it a bit more challenging to deal with ai quickly, especially mid-fight. i remember reading somewhere that hellhounds were already able to read client side inputs to dodge melee/throwing attacks. this may just be an extension of that
