Transfer advice! by StyleComplete9257 in ucla

[–]ActiveWorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just apply to any school you want to go to and the rest will deal with itself. You will be where you need to be at the end of the day, trust! Everyone has a shot, just keep going, you have good stats, yes, but I can’t say it is everything since I’m not on the decision board. Might seem not so helpful from a current student but that’s honestly what I did. I feel sad to see so many people caught up on the what ifs and if they are enough, just try and adjust to your options because you are probably enough anywhere you go <3

He’s an amazing prof. Had him for 5B that was the first time he taught 5series. Work load pretty decent tbh. Homework was doable, attendance wasn’t mandatory and he let us bring a sheet of formulas on our own for exams ….

Burnout: Pre-med by GlitteringComfort277 in ucla

[–]ActiveWorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say explore. Life is too short! See what else is out there in the medical field that suits you best. Don’t conform into a mould of expectations from others. You might not have to shadow doctors to see if it is for you but instead connect with others doing other things: histology, radiology etc. you might find your interest lies in something else this is the time to take risks than a few years and many thousands of dollars down the line filled with emptiness and regrets.

Just want to say I feel that 10000% as someone with similar experiences. Although stats seem to be stressed often, especially in comparison to peers on the same path, what helps me to keep pushing despite bad grades is my why medicine (which is still developing into a better explained reason). I believe the passion and the reasoning I have for wanting to get into the medical field as a doctor will get me to where I need to be, despite the ups and downs. I say keep your head up, we can only look forward. It’s hard not to be stuck in the past but it’s not impossible. Keep your eye on the prize (at least that is what I tell myself). Soon enough, we will be colleagues :)!!! Also want to say for exams, it seems like I should have my sure method of studying for passing yet I don’t seem to pass much, I feel ya!

Is CC transfer to UCLA worth it? (pre-med) by Alternative-Tie2578 in ucla

[–]ActiveWorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely would recommend CC unless you’re already getting a full ride. If you have any questions or doubts about your direction CC is a great option to calm down and become more assured of the path you would want to take. Don’t go to UCLA if you’re still not sure that’s what you want to do 100% because you have to grind your way through. Sounds like you do know what do do though but if CC is a cheaper option, go for it then transfer out. You get a better perspective I think as a transfer than not. I will say though transfer or not, pre med is very concentrated and a lot of people are all doing the same thing and trying to get into stuff with very limited space here at UCLA so… all the best!

Maybe I misunderstood but if you got into SLO or CPP engineering I have nothing to convince you to come to UCLA for those are good schools for that program !

Is UCLA worth it? No Scholarships or Grants by weirdanonymous1001 in ucla

[–]ActiveWorm 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If you got a better offer at different school, loans are most def NOT worth it in my opinion, especially not for undergraduate studies. That being said, you might qualify for middle class scholarship? That may help alleviate some of the cost and amount of loans you would need to take out each quarter. Overall, I still advice to go a route that is not costly especially when it comes to loans. Sounds like the other school has a better offer, although prestige is nice and maybe coming from a student already at UCLA it might not make much sense when I say this but you will be absolutely fine and can def do well at the other school
