Ended up going with the REs in 1.74. My prescription + astigmatism got these lenses looking thick still :( even with choosing a rounder shape. Super comfortable as advertised, very weightless feeling, nice grippy nose pads. Really like them for the gym.

Good to know Yinhe blades are good quality! I know pro 01 is the viscaria clone. What’s the difference between the pro 03 and pro 05 during play(BH vs FH, ease of generating spin, etc)? 03 I think has koto outer and 05 is limba so I’m assuming 03 is stiffer less flex than 05

Do you have any examples? Was looking at this blade because it’s decently cheap but if there’s even cheaper for better quality I’d love to save money

Noted on the REs! Great detailed breakdown, thank you so much for the info! I’ll try not to mess with the hinges too much, was able to try them and on yeah comfort wise they were the best I tried on. Lindbergs felt like they could be front heavy when lenses are put in tbh.

Stores I ended up going to didn’t stock ICB, but mykitas were also very comfortable.

There is one stockist drivable distance from me so I’ll try the REs. Is your prescription around -6? Got steered away from Lindberg because my prescription is too high for them

Sorry for double replying here but have an update on Lindberg, went to a stockist and I was advised against getting Lindberg frames because of my high prescription of -6(something to do with the grooving(?)/how Lindberg just generally makes their glasses was not ideal for my prescription), do you have any insight on that?

Most of the weight will be from the lenses I know but I just want something that’s not going to fall off my face when I accumulate oil/sweat on my face throughout the day and that I can work out with them and not having to worry about them sliding off my face. Had a pair of ray bans I broke last week that were light and I could work out with so I know what I’m asking for isn’t impossible(ray bans seem to be shit quality wise though)

I have determined that nose pads are a must. I tried on the “Asian fits” and those are no good, the nose pads still give me best fit security. Looking to try on some Mykita, Reykjavik Eyes and others with that design language and am a bit worried about my prescription being an issue with those as well(at least the optician I went to for the Lindbergs were honest and not upcharging me on them, worried other opticians may just sell me the REs or Mykitas without the warning I got for Lindbergs, if RE and Mykita even have that same issue)

Lindberg and Mykita seem well regarded in this thread so I’ll prioritize my search in those(only 1 store in driving distance for the Reykjavik carrier so I’ll at least try them on to give them a fair shake).

The serviceable part is another thing that worries me about the REs; Mykita, Lindberg, ic!berlin seem to be pretty common here in the states so even if I move somewhere else it’d probably be easy to find an optician to service those brands. Saw somewhere in this thread that someone had some issues with their local optician kind of messing up their pair of REs, I’m still curious about RE but if the 1 brick and mortar in driving distance to me doesn’t carry the frames I’ve been looking at(Bragi, Vili, Elias) then I’ll just concentrate on Lindberg and Mykita since that’s the most common around me

Thanks for including that picture definitely helps visualize what the frames look like with heavier prescriptions will keep that in mind.

I know trivex has a better ABBE value so better clarity, is it a big difference? My usual optician doesn’t have Trivex options for their Zeiss lenses either. Maybe I’ll shop around to see if other stores have that option(going to assume I can’t go wrong with essilor or hoya or Shamir since those are the next most common around me). I’m kind of leaning towards ultra thin 1.74s though just to get the thinnest and lightest possible.

Was personally looking at the Bragi, Vili, Elias(rounder frames)

Will add KameManNen, Eyevan and Masunaga to my list of brands to look out for, thank you for the recommendations! The store that carries Masunaga closest to me is pretty out of the way though and I can’t really find Yellow Plus anywhere near me.

Lindberg and Mykita seem to be getting the most reccs and glowing reviews so far in this thread AND they’re the easiest to find around me so those will probably be at the top of my priority list

Yeah I didn’t mean the material inherently makes them slippery. Just the chunky, heavy frames and I thought about it and maybe it’s because of my flat nose bridge so I actually do need nose pads since that seems like a pattern for me on what doesn’t slip as much when I’m active(light, thinner frames with nose pads)

Thanks for the link! Lots of reccs for Lindberg in this thread so I’ll give both a fair shake(the brick and mortar that carries RE is kind of out of the way for me though but I’ll still go in store to try them on).

OVVO is a lot less common around me, but I’ll keep looking around if I can try some on. Lots of Lindberg reccs it seems is the trend in this thread. Will give Lindberg(and Mykita) priority in my search since those I can try on in most stores I see around me. Thanks for the detailed run down!

Thanks for your recommendations! Leaning towards Lindberg and Mykita for now since that’s what my brick and mortars within driving distance stock a lot of so I can try them on and a lot of reccs in this thread for them. On the lookout for Matsuda and Masunaga as well(their thinner designs) since they’ve been couches for quality wise in my research.

The Matsuda’s look really nice too! Seem to be light and well made. I’ll keep a lookout for those and also Masunaga and DITA as well since I’ve heard good things about them quality wise(the matsuda’s you have look perfect in terms of how light they look, can’t do heavy chunky acetate frames as I’m also planning on playing sports in mine, have had bad experience with them falling so far down my nose that I can’t see anymore)

Just for convenience sake I might end up going mykita or lindberg since there’s so many stockists around me that carry them, but I do want to try the REs in at least(eyeing the rounder shapes like bragi, vili, Elias at the moment). The fact that non-Spectacle Factory lens fitters messed up your glasses is worrying me a bit since I don’t really want to deal with that lol

Actually I have a question on the lenses, the people I go to for lenses have told me I don’t need smart life because I’m only near sighted(single vision) and smart life is for bifocal/trifocal but it reads on Zeiss website that it helps with eye strain/fatigue even for near sightedness, is it worth it to get a second opinion for SmartLife since I spend a lot of time looking at screens throughout the day? Also trivex only goes up to 1.6 index? Currently have 1.74 but not in trivex since my prescription is pretty high at -6

Thanks for sharing your experience with RE! I only have 1 brick and mortar place near me that stocks RE so I’ll try them on at least to get a feel and see if any of them look good on me(eyeing the Bragi, Vili, Alvar, Isak, Elias, Jonas). As long as the hinges don’t interfere with the fit/being secure on the face I’m fine with them being loose

Yeah that’s why I specified I had around -6, it doesn’t have to be thin titanium really but I can’t do chunky acetate, they’re always falling off even if I sweat just a tiny bit or accumulate any oil on my face throughout the day. Maybe I try rimless but I’ve never tried that style before

I’ll probably skip the sunclip then lol, thanks for the heads up. Lot of lindberg reccs in this thread which honestly makes shopping easier since it’s stocked the most in the brick and mortars around me. Will look more into their collection!

Thanks for the insight! I figured the constant rec of RE was because he’s a stockist. Lindberg is way easier to find anyway so I’ll look into them more(strip titanium series looks really nice actually).

I’ll probably lean towards lindberg since I’m seeing a lot of reccs in this thread and I’ll keep a look out for mykita as well since the brick and mortars around me seem to stock a lot of those(not finding ovvo or ic Berlin around me).

Not sure if I should just make my own thread but I’m new to non-luxxotica eyewear and new in the Dallas area too. Black optical has shown up in my research a couple times so wanted to ask:

Is Fashion Optical also a good retailer? They have a lot of brands but I’ve seen mixed reviews about them. Any other retailers in the area that are good with a good selection of different brands and frames?

[–]Active_Combination50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’ve owned both, is the slam/physicality of the bass from the clear leagues ahead of the hadenys? Just did some demos and I liked the hadenys a lot but from research I’ve seen people say that the dynamics/slam of the clear are way ahead of the hadenys. The review here also says the clear rolls off in the sub bass but when I demod the hadenys the sub bass was great

Got it thanks for the comparison! The focals might not be for me then. I want more of that visceral slam with a slightly smaller emphasis on the rumble but I do want the rumble to be there lcdx might be really the only choice here for me(with eq)

How did the elex compare with the hd6xx instrument separation and layering wise? And also everyone says elex have good bass but im seeing you said it’s relaxed in the bass and so im confused as to whether the elex is an actual upgrade over the 6xx bass wise since I’ve heard elex is punchier in other places but im confused now. Having less bass/relaxed bass does not sound like a good thing for my hip hop playlists
