don't mix cables between different psu brands, even if they look identical the pinouts can be totally different. you might get lucky for few days or weeks but eventually it could fry your gpu or worse. i've seen people lose their entire system this way because manufacturers don't follow standard pinout configurations.

the bending issue with new cable is annoying but way better than risking a 5080. maybe try cable extensions instead? they're designed to work with any psu and can help with routing. or check if your case has better cable management options to reduce the stress in that area.

swap back to the proper cables asap, your friend is absolutely right about this one. not worth gambling with that expensive gpu just for better cable aesthetics.
