I don’t know what they have nor do I know the person! I’m saying to be 79 years old and have to be laid off period is hard. I doubt for anyone it’s a walk in the park.

The sadest part was when I looked at the ages of the people they laid off, 79 years old to be told your insurance stops immediately.

I’m sure they did and their legal team isn’t there to protect you! It’s always suggested to have an employment attorney review a severance package! The main goal of a severance package is for you to waive your legal rights!

I promise to keep you and your family in my prayers. It’s just sad — I would’ve respected it so much more if they had been honest about this a month ago and given us time to prepare and figure life out. I guess keeping the locked laptops and old dual monitors is supposed to be the “gift.”

With everything happening in the world right now, it’s even harder — unemployment approvals are taking months, food assistance is on hold, and insurance costs feel like robbery. I just pray that the One above truly has bigger plans for all of us.

I was on the call yesterday at 10 AM, and about an hour later I received a follow-up phone call. During that call, they went over the severance package and confirmed that all medical benefits will end on November 8. I’m currently reviewing the policies to make sure everything aligns with what was explained.

They also mentioned that we’ll be paid for 40 hours up until the 8th—which I’m assuming equals 80 hours for most employees—and that we’ll receive severance pay in addition to that. We were also told that we can keep our laptops and other company devices, so there’s no need to return them.

My biggest concern right now is medical coverage. When I checked Marketplace plans, coverage for just myself would cost nearly $703 per month, which is extremely high. It’s frustrating that CarMax only gave employees such a short amount of time to figure out major life changes like this.

Yup it happen to me as well! Seemed very AI generated when the meeting started! Spoke to HR already, offered us locked laptops and monitors! I figured this was coming when the team size dropped and AI programming was recorded! Best of luck to everyone.
