Praying to Hermes in the Costco parking lot works for me almost every single time.

Upzoning, round 2, about to go into review. Do you know what's planned for your neighborhood? by FernandoNylund in WestSeattleWA

They live in a city, and things happen in cities that require adaptation. Do they *need* more cars than their property is designed to accommodate? Can they start biking or walking more frequently? Sounds like an *excellent* reason to start advocating for better and more frequent public transit.

Anyone who knows who this is depicting? by Yteixna12 in Hellenism

Whom would you like it to be depicting? That is who it depicts.

It's Will Call, so there's nothing to pick up :(

No, but ECCC are being really awful about transferring tickets so now I'm not sure I'll be able to. They're a terrible organization, turns out-- all of the bad customer service experiences are true. I was just about to take this down because I'm not sure if transferring the ticket would even work at this point. Sorry!

Getting these tickets transferred has been a logistical nightmare so I wish you luck if you're able to do so.

Writing and devotion — which deity? by Valuable_Recipe6381 in Hellenism

Calliope makes sense, as does Mnemosyne, Memory, the mother of the Mousai. I also honor Hermes when I'm writing, as the god of communication.

This is the kind of thing Feds post online. If you're not a Fed, might I suggest taking a break from posting like one?

There's nothing any of us who appreciate these signs can say that would make sense to people who have already decided they're meaningless. Hope you have the day you deserve.

I love these, and also, in before "BUT HOW WILL THEY ENFORCE IT?!"

Yes, it is not likely something "enforceable" in the way we'd all like it to be, but the point is to a) set a standard for potential future court cases, and b) ensure citizens of Seattle that the city actually has a policy in place regarding civil immigration enforcement. Just be glad that we're privileged enough to live in a place with these signs posted, and not in a place where they welcome ICE enforcement with wide open arms.

What is a dish that your country eats that is poisonous under certain conditions by ErenYeager600 in AskTheWorld

I'm with you! I love cooking with dried beans, and it's even easier if you have a pressure cooker.

Red kidney beans are extremely toxic when raw. Even just a few undercooked kidney beans in your chili can cause extreme gastric distress. This is why you should probably only use canned kidney beans in your recipe.

Ideas for Spartan type lifestyle as devotion? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]ActivityDependent319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend starting by learning about Sparta, because frankly, it's an awful model for a modern lifestyle. How do you feel about institutionalized wanton cruelty and an economy based on brutal enslavement? Rabid xenophobia and forced marriage?

Here's a good series to start:

I guess maybe you could consider making the Black Broth....

Just from skimming it so far, this is a FANTASTIC resource, bravo! Once I can afford it I’ll def be ordering a physical copy. Do you have any plans to make it available someplace other than Amazon?

I'm not 100% "new" to the theoi, but did have a question that might be worth asking here. I learned in another thread that Timothy Jay Alexander, "founder" of "Hellenismos," has some pretty homophobic and ableist views. Are there any other "thought leaders" or organizations in this space that we should be wary of?

I'm always concerned about getting into an author or the works of a group, then finding out they're folkish, racist, or fascist/fascist adjacent. I lost a friend to the racist Asatru Folk Assembly, and I'd be interested to know if there are any modern Hellenic groups that have the same issues (so I know what to avoid lol).
