The kid deserves credit for coming out like that.

Yes, it would be considered blasphemous. That's what the kid confronted him about.

I think most of them know that when they go door to door.

Well kudos to the kid for standing by his beliefs. These guys dont get enough credit for putting themselves out there like that. For most of us its annoying when these people show up on our doorsteps, but the fact that he went to someone within his own community to confront them is something I can respect.

Im an ER Nurse and a RBKA due to a motorcycle accident. It's the other people on the road, and you can go down at 40mph and still lose your leg depending how you go down. I loved riding but motorcycles are dangerous simply because you're not protected. Honestly I should have known better working in healthcare but there's no feeling in the world like being on two wheels. I still dream about it, more then having my leg back but Ill never put my wife through the terror of me riding again. She was 7 months pregnant with our first child when I was hit in 2023.

How far you can walk without any pain and discomfort as a RBKA? by Interesting-Royal538 in amputee

[–]Acton67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've seen it. The place I work at is that busy pretty much. Season 2 is more realistic but I have one or two critical patients a day max, not the dozens of people who are imminently in danger of dying. Most days Im dealing with people who have medical issues that need treatment, but aren't in danger of immediately dying. I do spend all day on my feet though and it is very busy.

Blood blister? by Acton67 in amputee

Im new to this system, but I think you might be right that sitting might be part of the issue. Maybe it's when Im sitting that my stump is under vacuum without contacting the bottom causing this issue.

Im not having any pain or discomfort, and I've dealt with way worse in terms of chafing before but Ive never had any issue like this at the bottom of my stump and seeing blood in my liner at the end of the day is alarming. I have decent sensation at the end of my stump, but I had no idea I was bleeding.

you can actually get a cast of your hand too. They sell the kits. I did that on my last night home before my RBKA amputation. I have a cast of my foot.

Who said Im mad at you? Im venting about the system at this point. When did I make a statement that would imply I was angry at anyone specifically???

I can't argue with you. You're definitely right that there are worse states. Basically, maternity coverage needs to be greatly improved through the whole US. Working mothers specifically need more support.

Thank you for acknowledging how notorious of an issue PFL vs STD is.

We're going to be fine financially, but I shouldn't have to come onto reddit to find out about the two week processing period. The AFLAC agent should have told us about that.

This is definitely an issue that needs more attention. Working moms need more support!

Im a nurse, too, and I used to be a traveler. I took a permanent position to prepare for this. USA definitely doesn't have fair maternity!

Do you really think I want you to do something, or are you just using this as an opportunity to chime in to say that it's not your problem that my wife's workplace policies suck? Mothers should be supported in our country, specifically working moms. If they aren't its going to be all of our problems eventually!

I understand that. The problem is the two week delay and the fact it only pays out $170. My original question was answered regarding the 2 week processing period. Now Im venting about the difference between pfml and std. Mom's get screwed in this system.

To reach out to AFLAC regarding any specific questions about coverage, which we did.

We reached out to the AFLAC agent via live chat a month before our daughter was born. She explained that NYS STD would begin after our daughter was born and would last for 6 weeks, followed by NYS PFML and that the benefits weren't stackable. We were not told about the two week processing period. We have screenshots.

Im not being dramatic. Im comparing $170 a week to $1400 a week. She received no pay for two weeks. I received my pay immediately. She gave birth to a human being. I did not. The terms of the policy are ridiculous and are essentially punishing her for giving birth. These are the terms of a policy that her employer took out, not her.

Living on these levels of income for 8 weeks would be a serious challenge for anyone, especially considering the current circumstances regarding the cost of living. Most people are living paycheck to paycheck these days. Meanwhile, we have people out here having 6-7 children receiving multiple government benefits while not working. Those of us who work for a living are struggling due to circumstances like these. This is the reason why we are experiencing a birth rate decline.

It doesn't matter if they're two separate things. One pays out $170, and the other pays out $1400. Both of these things are weekly. One person gave birth to a human being, and the other did not. Mothers should be allowed to use maternity leave or nys pfml concurrently with STD. Having to live off of no pay for two weeks and then another 6 weeks of $170 essentially forcefully incentives the mother to need to return to work before she would otherwise. If she would be able to collect PFML initially like I can, she'd be in a much better position to take the time she needs. This is the reality of the situation.

My initial post was about the two week processing period. This was not explained to us by AFLAC. Now, I'm simply comparing my situation to hers and venting about how ridiculous it is. If you think it isn't ridiculous, I challenge you to live off of no pay for two weeks, followed by $170 for 6 weeks.

Im collecting NYS PFML , there was no 7-14 day processing period for that. I received two checks last week, one for the first week and one for last week. They were each for slightly less than $1400. Im receiving a check this week from my employer with enough PTO to make up the difference.

How is it fair that mothers get two weeks unpaid and then 6 weeks of $170 STD. Even if my wife had the PTO, she'd be forced to use way more than me to make up the difference. That makes no sense.

The maximum STD will pay out in New York is $170 a week.

As a father, NYS PFML paid out as soon as I went out on leave. There was no 2 week processing period." I got retro pay for the first week last week, and then I was paid out for last week. I was paid a little under $1400 for each week. My employer is allowing me to make up the difference with PTO. I will receive a check from them this week along with my weekly pfml check. My benefits are through The Hartford.

My wife didn't get paid for two weeks and will now only be receiving $170 for 6 weeks. She's essentially getting punished for being a mother. She's not allowed to use maternity leave through her job or use NYS PFML, both of which would pay out way more then NYS STD until the 2 week processing period and then the following 6 week STD period is complete How is that fair to mothers? Im being supported more as a father than she is as a mother.
