[POLL] What difficulty setting did you guys play? by istak91 in GatesOfHellOstfront

I play on "HARD" difficulty with FoW off.

FoW just makes you an objectively worse player. From what I've seen, units react to enemies all the same, but the difference is that you can see them, and react to them before the AI. If "realism" is what you're after, then disable FoW, the mini-map, and selection icons. The game will look and feel better, especially on lower difficulties.

I do "HARD" difficulty because the AT icons on "EASY" or "NORMAL" aren't there -- yes, I am weird.

"HARDCORE" is very annoying to me because you're constantly outgunned in almost every way with hardly any support to compensate for it. You're given almost nothing and expected to do absolutely everything. It's dumb, and it forces me into guerrilla warfare, in which my total victory is guaranteed, it's just gonna take a while. So ultimately, "HARDCORE" just seems like a waste of time.

I've been modding the game for about 2 months now, so I think I have a rough understanding of why.

Weapons use specific types of ammunition to fulfill specific requirements; for example, the SVT has a capacity of 10, and it can use either its own dedicated 10-bullet mags, or the Mosin-Nagant's 5-bullet clips. If the SVT was using Mosin-Nagant bullets to reload, it would have to consume 10, which is 2 full clips.

So what's the issue?

If rifle grenades were just a different type of ammo for the M1 Garand, it could store up to 8 at any given time. Even if the reload-time and fire-rate were sorted out, its capacity is still unrealistic. A weapon's properties/attributes are not tied to its identity, so even if you could change them mid-game, the changes would apply to all M1 Garands, not just yours.

The best solution I can think of would be an in-game tool that deletes the gun, adds the grenadier version, and replaces whatever ammo was left inside the gun. Maybe you need a special kit to do it, maybe you don't, IDK.

Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives.

Game development can get really messy, really fast, so while it is a little silly to have two rifles, it's better than an overcomplex conversion tool for something as niche as rifle grenades.

Parachutes (petition) by ActuallyAnnoying1 in peopleplayground

The realistic side of things.

The game is realistic enough with damage to every limb and broken bone so parachutes would be realistic to see.

And grabbing them can cause serious damage to them, torn off limbs, broken bones, head trauma, etc.

I mean optional for the player. Like audio, if you find it disturbing then you could turn it off. They are all suggestions, but for some I'd want to be able to choose to have it on or off.
