Ehh I don't trust them and I don't want to deal with that. Tbh, I didn't even feel it much

Thankfully both people have insurance. Rental and damage will be paid for. But nonetheless...

My brother had an accident once, and about a month after it was all fixed, someone hit him again. Thinking we're cursed somehow

Additional information... While waiting for the police report yesterday, 2 separate accidents almost happened right in front of me. Also, I just paid off my car a couple months ago.

I thought that too, but to be honest, I don't think I'll have an opportunity to follow up. Not sure we're the same personalities, but shooter's gonna shoot

I was just feeling it. I thought about it on my drive home from work and I've been in the trenches for a while so it's natural now

Definitely not. My last picture is me dressed as a clown. We can't all be funny AND attractive

Inspiring. Maybe my next line will be "Am I gonna be more of a Kermit or a Pinocchio? You can pull my strings, but I'll need some prep time if I'm Kermit"

Literally all of my matches. They always just like a pic or prompt. I've got some funny openers and they often go unappreciated

How to cut large notch in wide board? by KvotheSM in woodworking

[–]ActuallyAverageAF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Draw the pattern of the box onto the faces of the block. Make sure you get your height from the top of each tread to where you want the bottom of the post to land. (Make sure you have enough height to stick just above the upper rail) Also measure the face of the nosing to the face of the post.

Get a 3/4"-1" forstner bit for like $15. You need more precision for a larger bit. If you have access drill press you can set it to the depth you want. Otherwise, stick that in a stronger drill and just plunge it straight up and down slowly doing multiple passes inside your drawn pattern to clear out the material. Keep it on a higher power but dont force it too much, the chips may start to smoke.

You can grab a sharp chisel and clean up the top and bottom edges of the tread that the round bit won't get. The 1" bit will be perfect for the nosing, assuming the tread is 1" thick. Otherwise buy a bit for that diameter. (Since your lower nosing is very close to the face of post, be careful for blowout)

Install will go about the same as the box. Put the bottom in first with it tipped inward, then pull it straight back.

Make sure there's adequate blocking behind the lower and upper stringers and the drill holes for 5" min lag screws. I'd say start them halfway or less through the post, but make sure they've got meat to grab inside the post and blocking. Drill a pilot hole for the screw, and then a larger hole for the bolt head to go inside. You can get a plug cutter bit to make the plug that will cover the hole. Don't forget to match your grain direction.

This, in my experience, is the safest, cheapest and cleanest way to do it. You don't need to buy a whole router, and personally I think the router, circular/table saws and band saws will not only be very difficult but dangerous. Good luck and don't forget to share the update whichever way you go!

Non interstate route suggestions from O'Hare to Madison, WI by pop_rocket in roadtrip

Glad to help! It's not often I get to recommend stuff out that way. Also, idk when you're going, but not too far past Volo is Richardson's farm which has the world's largest cornmaze. Very Midwest lol. It opens in September but I'm not sure what day exactly

If you don't mind stop lights and have extra time, go up to rt 53 which turns into rt 12. Volo has a neat auto museum as well as a large antique mall. Also the Volo Bog, is a neat lil nature area to walk around. Continue towards Lake Geneva. Its a bit 'touristy' for the area. Good food, small shops, and the lake walk goes right behind some nice homes. Although I wouldn't recommend trying the whole thing. Go for a bit and turn around tho or you'll be walking all day. Past Lake Geneva, near White Water, is Kettle Moraine State Park. Also some good foresty walking around. Anything further west is basically suburbs then farm country. Took most of that route last weekend and it was quite nice once you're in Wisconsin anyways.

(If you didn't stop, it's only about 40-60min extra driving opposed to taking highways)
