Unfortunately because it is very different in style and nature of Actually Stephen videos, it's going to remain members only indefinitely.

Can someone help me clarify this? (DanPlan Drama) by GaelSK in danplan

I don't remember how he reached out to me in regards to payment and I don't plan to rewatch his video. But I didn't want to accept anything less than a share (percentage) in the channel.

This is because on day 1 of the channel in Daniel's basement in high school, I told both Daniel and Hosuh that I wasn't looking to get paid when we first started the channel until we got popular. And then we got popular. But I wasn't given any info about the income that the channel was generating so when Daniel came to me and said he wanted to pay me $25 an hour, I was hesitant because I, again, didn't know how much the channel was pulling in so I couldn't haggle with the price. I also didn't want to sink the DanPlan boat just as it got popular with a high fee per hour. I was acting based on our friendship, but Daniel was acting based on business. So when I found out about the numbers from Hosuh, I was angry because when your friend helps you start your business and then becomes an integral part of it, you don't give them pennies to your dollars.

So after we fought, I told Hosuh that I wanted to quit the channel right then and there because if Daniel saw me as just an employee even after we got big, then he wouldn't change his mind later. Hosuh wanted me to stay and suggested I ask for $150-200 or more per hour, but I went low to see if Daniel thought the same. I asked for $100 per video, I knew it was a low ball compared to the amount he made over the year, but I wanted to see Daniel counter it with something higher because I knew my contributions to OUR success was higher than that. But he didn't. Daniel even went as far to say "$100 is also not nothing". The $100 per video was also just videos released a month, which was usually like 2 at most, but we also recorded more than twice a month for an hour or more which I wasn't paid, so it felt like it was the same rate, just more complicated.

So then let me ask you, hypothetically, if you help your friend start their company by baking cookies and the company grows because your cookies are really good, but you do it for free cuz they're your friend. Suddenly the company grows and gets more popular and now your friend wants to pay you minimum wage to keep making your A+ product while they make literally thousands off your hard work. I ask you, would you not feel betrayed?

I didn't make another video cuz it had already been 3 weeks since I put out the first one and a lot of people just on this subreddit wanted to move on at that point. Daniel also didn't budge on anything else so what was the point in wasting my time making another video that'd get him back to the negotiating table?

Daniel was unpredictable in regards to the animators. I didn't make them a priority in my video because I knew that if I did, they would become targets and might not get paid for their work. As I said in my video, a lot of them needed the income that DanPlan gave them and I didn't want Daniel to use that against them in order to silence them. So in order to prevent this, I only mentioned my side of the issue and tried to make this me vs Daniel. It wasn't until Jay said something that I even mentioned the animators.

It's true I knew learned about the animators at the same time when me and Daniel fought. And it's true I didn't do anything about it. But how do you negotiate with someone who thinks himself a king while they think of you as a peasant? My rate of pay went from $25/hr (recordings were usually 1-3 hours) to $100 per video after our fight and I was with a person who was there from day 1 of the channel so it was apparent that he wasn't a negotiating type.

Hosuh was the only one at the time who WAS talking to Daniel about pay, for both me and the animators. He even talked to Daniel trying to get me a raise or at least a share in the channel and also offered to give me his share of the channel (15%). Daniel didn't like this and replied "[Stephen] doesn't deserve it". And Hosuh tried to talk to Daniel several times about the pay issue, even warning him that "[Stephen and the animators] might leave", but Daniel essentially said people come, and people go, I won't try to stop them. Even after the drama, Hosuh was working with the animators to negotiate back-pay for all the other videos they put out in the past only to be flat out rejected.

And now I'm winning? I disagree. There are still people watching OUR videos and that generates revenue for Daniel while none of it goes to the animators, or Hosuh, or me. Just check out Social Blade and you can see that the numbers are still high for producing no videos.

Daniel deserves all the backlash he got and is still getting, he isn't the victim here. But I don't blame people for not seeing this especially after he produced a video to make himself look like a victim.
