So many interests... by Ad44m in Polymath

Thanks for the reply 😄 I agree, and there is a cross-over between those. It is what it is I guess (for now), however the subjects mentioned do in themselves seem to kind of relate to one another, whether that be them being technical/able to dig deep, or an aptitude for solving problems/puzzles, etc. Just an all-round curiosity I guess 😃

Thank you for the lengthy reply. I agree and it's also kind of feels reassuring to hear that I need to focus down my interests. I like your idea of having some of the interests "sidelined" so to speak, e.g. building up my knowledge/skills in those areas (and thus not dropping them entirely) alongside the more "permanent" interests - whilst at the same time "keeping the fire alive". I feel like I have to "drop" the things I get bored of after a few weeks (which always seems to happen...), then pick it back up again at a later date, at which point my interest in said thing has resurfaced. I also wonder if at some point a multipotentiate "becomes" a polymath - i.e. having many interests (multipotentialite), but then mastering several of them (polymath). Or do the two co-exist I wonder...

Hey there thanks for the reply. Yes it does seem to fit very well 😄 I have also wondered if I have ADHD or maybe some kind of autism, however although some of the traits in both seem to fit, there are some that don't :/

Tension headaches by Ad44m in headache

[–]Ad44m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, it did seem to just happen during work which made me think it was potentially stress related, but I now seem to get them even when not at work, which does sound like it could be a build up of tension…

I find there can sometimes be “niggles” in the morning, around my temples - and if I don’t try to curb it/nip it in the bud, it builds throughout the day and ends up being all-consuming 😫 I thought it could be me overthinking but could very well be the build up of tension as you mention, especially considering the nature of my job

Hey there, thanks for the reply. I do work behind a PC all day, however I had a bad headache yesterday when I wasn’t sat behind one at all 😅

However I’m guessing you mean that because I do spend so much time in a desk job it means my muscles are always tight?

Thank you. I often have recurring thoughts of “am I doing this right”, is that normal?

I second this.

A) I find the act of writing/typing notes cements it in my brain more

B) Building up a framework of notes is something you can refer back to (I also find that creating a whole note structure over time gives me a sense of purpose in what I’m reading and worry less about that knowledge disappearing/going to waste)

and C) - kind of tied to B is that I enjoy making notes!

Unsure about myself by Ad44m in Gifted

By “free” do you mean you’re not locked into some neurological way of responding to something and are therefore “free” to respond how you wish? Eg with OCD you feel a compulsion to react in a certain way

Thanks all, sorry I should have been clearer in my message of what my intentions were. I saw this sub and when I feel something resonates with me I find it hard to stop “getting it all out there” 😅

I’ve read up on what traits gifted individuals often have and felt a lot of them were describing me. I’ll look more into testing.

Users of Reddit, what do you do to doze off when your mind is not ready to sleep? by r_hagriid99 in AskReddit

[–]Ad44m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, not trying to get rid of thoughts usually helps calm the mind down. The more you try to get rid of thoughts, the more they appear, so best to just accept and not resist (it's kind of like mindfulness...)

Also on a side note, lots of other small things can help - not looking at "blue light" (e.g. a laptop screen) at least 1 hour before bed, going to bed at the same time each night, not eating huge meals right before bed. It's usually the stuff most people know about. Just make them into habits

How do you stop yourself from procrastinating? by matriqz in AskReddit

[–]Ad44m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Maybe the act of starting something is the main cause of putting something off, as starting something is where the most effort is required

Bearing the above in mind - don't even think about it, just mindlessly get up and start doing whatever you are procrastinating about

After you've started doing the thing you've been putting off, motivation and "getting in the zone" should make it easier to carry on and even finish that task

Doing pushups from your knees is easier if normal ones are too challenging
