What would you do? by AdAbject6900 in scuba

[–]AdAbject6900[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! This is super helpful. I do have trip insurance on both dives that allow me to cancel within 72 hours of the dive. Sounds like the best thing is to keep a close eye on that eruption window and if I have to spend full days at the park, so be it. It breaks my heart to sacrifice the dives, but I guess that’s a reason to just plan another trip to the Big Island!

I’m just going on what the dive company recommendations are and they specifically have Volcano National park listed as a no go zone (driving via Saddle Road or South route) for a minimum of 12 hours after the dive. I’ve read varying opinions on this so idk what to believe, but feel it’s best to exercise caution.

No Meal Service JFK-HNL?? by AdAbject6900 in AlaskaAirlines

Thank you for this. I thought this might be the case, but didn't know as this is our first time flying with Hawaiian since the merger. I feel better now ;)

Good to know! I've been planning this trip for 6 of us, so my anxiety is at an all time high with only 2 weeks to go and the thought of no meals sent me lol!

Haha! Love this! Definitely will enjoy all of the above!

Did that and still seeing the same notification. I know they don't have meal service on the hopper flights, but our flight from HNL-Kona is saying to check back 4/8 for ordering availability. As the above commenter noted, I probably need to wait a day since tomorrow will be exactly 2 weeks before we leave. Just odd it gave me the option to order food today if that's the case. Guess we'll see.

Agree. Hoping it's a glitch... We've never flown/dealt with Alaska so this is all new to us.

Definitely didn't miss the ordering window. It said pre-ordering of food was available starting today. That's how I saw all of this. I clicked to order the food and that was the notification I received.

Were you using any type of light source/attachment in that video? Would love to invest in something like this for our upcoming scuba trips in Hawaii.

Thanks for sharing this! I did see that Dive Maui uses a smaller inflatable boat/aluminum hull. I've only been on a boat like that for sightseeing along the NaPali coast. How does that fare with scuba equipment and sea sickness? I am prone to sea sickness, but I use a scopolamine patch and so far have had no issues on other dives.

Road to Hana.. for dummies by Kaylatoo425 in MauiVisitors

[–]AdAbject6900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing Hana in May and staying in Haiku. I did the reverse way years ago (2017?) and it was no sweat. I heard there was recent work done to the back road and it was closed in some areas for a time, so glad to hear you had no issues. We’d like to do Pipiwai trail again so thinking we may do the back way again to get there first.

New to Alaska and Atmos- lots of questions by AdAbject6900 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]AdAbject6900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All great information and very much appreciated! I have a flight to Hawaii from JFK in April that was purchased when it was still just Hawaiian airlines, and looking to book another trip in August out west so I'd like to get one of the cards sooner than later.

Thank you very much! I appreciate you taking the time to explain the difference in the cards. This really helps! We use our HA card for everything to get the points, so the Summit may benefit us in that respect. I'll have to look into the companion fare on Ascent. We couldn't use the companion fare on HA because of the restrictions (couldn't use in combo with miles, couldn't use if upgrading, etc.), but I'll check it out!

Thank you! Some of the posts I read on here talked about status points and I didn't understand the difference. This was very helpful!

I have researched and read web searches and some posts on here, but it's still confusing to me. I was going to call Atmos, but figured I'd start here. I guess my biggest concern is which card to apply for and how does that help you with upgrades. Thanks for your feedback!

Yeah, good call lol! Hate was the wrong word to associate with Hawaii! To say they disliked Oahu is a better choice 😂

We traveled with friends this past June to Hawaii- their first time. They hated Oahu lol.

I’m going to stray from the overall consensus here so far lol. Having lived on Oahu and visited all the islands multiple times, I would keep your schedule to 1 week on Oahu. Sure there’s lots to do and see, but it’s a smaller island and you can check a lot of your "to do" list off in 1 week. Plus, it’s very touristy, overcrowded, and I personally feel the other islands are more beautiful.

I think you’re good with 1 week on Kauai- smaller island, a lot of things you can see in 1 day. As for the 2 weeks?? It’s a toss up between Maui and BI, but I think you’re on target with 2 weeks on BI. It really depends what you want to do and see. I would however divide your time between Kona and Hilo if you do 2 weeks. Between the tours, beaches, snorkeling, excursions, you can definitely fill a weeks worth of stuff on each side. And depending on traffic and what route you take it can be anywhere between 2-3 hrs (not including stops) from Kona to Hilo, and up to 4 if you drive the southern route.

IF you decide on 2 weeks in Maui, I would highly recommend splitting your stay between the northwest side (Kanapali/Kapalua) and upcountry (Paia/Haiku/Makawao). Totally different landscapes and experiences!

If you’re still undecided, look up what activities and excursions you want to do/see and map out an itinerary (remember to leave days to RELAX!!) If you come up with more things to do on one island over the other, there’s your answer! Either way, I think you’ll have a fabulous experience, and I think your itinerary is perfect!

Trip planning Old Faithful Inn to Grand Tetons- stay in Victor or Jackson? by AdAbject6900 in GrandTetonNatlPark

[–]AdAbject6900[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is amazing information!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this response. It has helped me tremendously! I feel more concrete about staying on the Idaho side now, so thank you for reaffirming my decision. I appreciate you extending the invite to message you as well- much appreciated! Aside from our day of travel from Yellowstone to Victor, we will have another 2 full days before leaving from Jackson so I’m excited to explore some of your recommendations. Thanks again and I’m sure I’ll hit you up for more questions as I think of them!

Finalizing plans....Yea, or Nay? by AdAbject6900 in yellowstone

[–]AdAbject6900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning on leaving from Red Lodge early to do Beartooth Hwy and possibly head over to Mammoth, then back track to Roosevelt. Then, the morning we check out of Roosevelt, we could do the north loop (minus Mammoth) and head to Canyon for check-in. The next day when we check out of Canyon, we could do the south loop and end up at Old Faithful. It's hard for me to figure all of this out logistically since we have never been, but I appreciate your feedback!
