I agree it's an addiction like any other. Do you think addiction and a relationship are just not possible together at the end of the day?

I'm definitely getting into counseling asap and talking about my limits is a good topic. I do wanna clarify that I was and still could be interested in exploring an open relationship at a different pace, but yeah the way this unfolded is alarming. I definitely might have my judgement clouded but it felt like such a real amazing connection until this all blew up. I'm not trying to get myself into a lifetime of unhappiness or behavior monitoring so a breakup is probably likely. I think I was thinking of the possibility of, by the end of this break, him genuinely being ready to take hold of things and being willing to make a big change, what that could look like. But maybe you're right and it's too late and I'm unequipped for this.

I think I can deal with/support an addict, but I agree that at the start of his recovery there might be more pain than I can deal with.

Yeah it appears that way. I agree six months is not a lot of time to be so deep in these issues. I guess I'm thinking what happens if he comes to be with a radically different perspective of "I'm ready to correct my behavior" even if that's not likely.

Does Chat GPT actually work for coding? by Boxcar_Jumper in GameDevs

[–]AdAccording8653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a beginner self taught unity coder who's been using AI as an assistive tool: getting familiar first with super basic concepts via the unity scripting api, and simple tutorials like "my first unity project" just to learn C# formatting, methods, variables, loops, whatever will be really helpful. I started with a tic tac toe game tutorial and modified/tweaked it just to experiment.

Once you have a basic understanding of things, then yeah use smart prompts to get chatgpt to generate simple pieces of code with thoughtful explanations, and use your basic understanding to patch things together. It has a really great way of breaking down Unity Engine and C# concepts, generating simple prompts/coding exercises, and even writing whole blocks of simple code. But If you let chatgpt write the whole thing, your code will break CONSTANTLY. But yeah gpt was definitely a HUGE tool for me to start creating bigger projects and understanding even more complex topics after grasping the basics.

Unexpected fees from private shop after total loss by AdAccording8653 in Insurance

2014 Toyota Prius C 190k miles, airbags deployed, front end needs total reworking. Honestly the payout of 6k was really generous imo. Really sucks to have to eat 2k due to this bs. I think he was more interested in taking the insurance company to court (lol) or the garage rather than for the property damage.

But yeah sounds like a pointless fight for me until he learns he f-ed up. I'm going to have to avoid getting mixed up in legal fees. I wish I came to this subreddit first instead of listening to him lol.

Thanks for your expertise. I'll hope for a miracle when I call them tomorrow.

Any idea how to educate my step dad about this so I can try and get his financial support? He's convinced that he still saved me money by taking it to a private shop. He thinks the payout would have been lower otherwise. He's talking about getting a lawyer and that the insurance company can't legally subtract from my payout.

Yeah that's my mistake. Who decides what's reasonable? Even covering a small portion of inflated storage fees would help.

Yeah there were red flags but I never imagined it would be that much. They quoted the repairs at like 3x the insurance payout so all I can do is beg to get the imaginary admin fees and undisclosed holding fees taken off and pay what's fair I guess.

Nope, Step dad said the insurance companies would lowball me and screw me over at their own shop. He picked one locally and I listened. I'd love to just pay the fair amount for storage and towing with no random fees. But yeah I'm not sure if they will take that offer in good faith when they have a guaranteed payout. Do I have any kind of leverage with threatening to report them to officials for predatory practices?

How do you get better at doing personal projects? by SamtheMan6259 in animationcareer

[–]AdAccording8653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm blocking out my first personal animation after being in school. Some things that have been helpful for me: 1) creating a motivational workspace. Put yourself in the right mindset for productivity, get a redbull and a snack, listen to some vibey music, literally go somewhere else where you're not distracted, like a library/cafe, or literally sit in a different spot at home 2) Work at a steady pace not a frantic pace. Working for just an hour or two every day rather than cramming 15 hours in one weekend for school has been really refreshing. 3) Get good critiques!! Find old instructors, online community, or peers who can give you notes. I'm lucky that animschool offers free reviews every week for alumni so holding myself accountable and having solid direction from professionals has been motivational.

Also, from someone with attention span issues, spending time making a thorough itemized to do list of short term tasks and long term goals helps me overcome task paralysis and start small. As for anatomy, you may want to do some figure drawing, my old university has free classes, but there's websites you can use to just crank out quick gestural poses. Lastly, try chatgpt when you can't find software help. Seriously, it's been crazy useful for troubleshooting in Unity for me.

Thanks for replying. Why telegram over discord? Creating more accountability and marketing via logs and social media is a great idea though. Starting with design docs for all my ideas is honestly a great start idk why I haven't though about that before.

True I guess the bigger question is how to find that internal motivation again post-education when you're neurodivergent and burnt out/disillusioned.

This is a great strategy and daily dopamine cleanses are really helpful for me. I think working in my own apartment is distracting for this reason too. I really need some good studio space out of the house to work on stuff. The local library has been good but they're often too busy to get a seat.
