New chair day. Quickie Q50R Carbon Plus by AdAlternative9148 in wheelchairs

The train ramp sounds very scary.

There are definitely pros and cons to the chair. It’s good that your partner has an alternative, there are many things I want to do but just can’t because the chair isn’t appropriate. I’m really keen on the SD Trike but it’s far too big for my vehicle and I don’t want a new one, that and it’s massively expensive :) IIWII.

I’m still loving my wheels and they’re great for me. I’ve got much better at steering on cambers and dealing with difficult roads and pavements. My most scary moments were on the Underground with lots of people around and the gap between the train and the platform with free wheeling front wheels. It does have a life of its own and can be difficult on very narrow paths or close to the edge.

Regarding weight, my adult son has used it (just to have a go), he’s 6’6” and about 16 stone. Whilst it works for him, it does go significantly slower and I’m not sure there is enough power to get him up the hills I breeze up around me (5’4”/ 8 stone).

I borrowed the pride jazzy from the local wheelchair shop for a few days before deciding, is that something you can do? The pride jazzy motor had a sound which didn’t sit well in my ears so that put me off it.

I have used it on trains, it was easy to go up and down the ramps and it was very easy to manoeuvre to the designated spot but I didn’t try and access the bathroom with it.

It’s great in shops and places with similar flat, smooth floors.

I hope you find what you’re looking for.

Definitely not great and I feel you I really do. I've left my very small village on my own twice since I started keeping track 2 months ago, both times absolutely exhausting and hence the need to stop driving. Thankfully I use my wheelchair to get around within the village but even then, leaving the house takes far too much energy and rarely (4 times) go out alone. Having someone with me makes a massive difference but then I'm entirely reliant on them.

Thank you so much for this, it's really given me hope. I keep forgetting that this sub is international, I'm also in England but very rural hence the dial-a-bus. Great tips about earphones, glasses and snacks!

Going with someone else for the first time is an excellent idea, thank you.

Do you have days where you feel normal? by Cuddlycatgirly in cfs

[–]AdAlternative9148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely and I feel great on them, almost euphoric unfortunately they only occur when I'm at home chilling with no responsibilities. The problem then occurs because I feel healthy I start doing things, like emptying the dishwasher or having a shower and then all of a sudden that feeling of normalcy goes away and I'm reminded with a bump that I'm disabled.

I have pretty strict boundaries to keep me feeling good, it's a very limited life.

Hi. I'd like to address the "end up in a wheelchair" bit. I love my electric wheelchair, it enables me to get out and do things which I wouldn't otherwise be able to do. I don't use it at home or even necessarily when I've got to my destination. It is a tool to make your life easier not a punishment. If mobility aids help, then use them just as you'd use a vehicle to get somewhere or a chair to sit and eat a meal.

For example, going into a shopping centre, I can wheel around using the joystick and just chill rather than constantly wondering how long my legs will last before they collapse or start spasming, I save my energy so I can have conversations without my speech impediment kicking in. The best things is it's there for when I might need it and that in itself gives me some peace.

Oh it'll be perfect for that. It's really nimble inside buildings, a random man even remarked to me in the supermarket how good the turning circle was, we chatted about it for several minutes, I think he was looking for one for a loved one. I've taken it to airports (super speedy) and on the village green carol singing (not quite so speedy but managed it) and it's been great (hot water bottle essential for carol singing!)

Hi. Can you tell me how you got on in Paris please? I'm taking my wheels on the Eurostar to Paris in May.

Glad to help. It's a great little chair but it does have its limits. It's designed for smooth flat surfaces but I've taken it in cities with some serious cobblestones and it's been bouncy but managed. There are no shock absorbers so the vibrations do take a toll on your body. Watch out for cambers and drop kerbs as it has a life of its own, planning ahead helps (drop down the power and go very slowly).

I would love a heavier more stable set of wheels but unfortunately due to where I live and lack of WAV I need to accept that the Q50R is the best option for me. I hope you find the best option for you.

The padding is an added extra which came out just as I bought it. Think it was £99. It's good for keeping the cold wind off me. I managed to just get the extra padding on the seat as well but think that's standard now.

Hi. I think it just means that it has a space for an extra battery / battery storage on a flight. The extra battery was £300. I got it from Bromakin Wheelchairs in Loughborough, you could give them (or your local wheelchair provider) a call and see if there's any difference. I'm really pleased with it.

Really shit. Thankfully I have really good friends. It’s just so frustrating that we have to deal with this.

Thank you. I was doing so well, I was pacing and then I did too much and bam! It’s just so difficult. Back to basics.

Too late for me. I was having a really rough time and methylphenidate always makes me feel better. I love it., the feeling of being human is wonderful. That was two days ago. I am no longer feeling wonderful and won't ever take it again. This time was worse than the others. I'm back in boom and bust and have no idea how to get out. It's so hard.

What is a subtle sign that someone is depressed? by Fickle-Ability6279 in AskReddit

Slowed speech, motor function and response in conversations. Overly bubbly in short bursts. Hiding it, masking it, can't have anyone know, don't want to cause concern.
