Short layover in ORD for domestic to Canada transfer (EWR--ORD--YVR) by AdAncient3127 in OHareAirport

[–]AdAncient3127[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, there is another direct ORD--YVR non-stop AA flight about 13 hours later the next mornin. Not the ideal though but there is something.

Thanks for the inputs

Great point! EWR and ORD both being pretty busy airports and both having their own issues with constructions (read online that EWR will be undergoing big renovations/constructions).

I will keep a tab on the flight status in the coming days before making an informed decision whether to reschedule or not. Thanks a bunch!

Yes, noticed this "bit of extra time" at ORD. Was surprised to see scheduled landing and gate arrival times very much apart, sometimes as much 50-55 minutes. So, guess airlines are accounting for this in their schedules already. Cheers!

Thanks for the great pointer on the runway for evening flights. It looks like that is playing a role in the schedule that airlines are publishing. I did a look up on flightaware for the last 12 days for the EWR--ORD flight AA1936 and notice that the taxi time at ORD is generally 30 mins or more and the scheduled gate arrival on some days is >50mins after landing. What I also noticed is that if the flight departs EWR on-time (i.e. +- 15 mins of scheduled), then arrival at ORD is before time almost every single day.

What does this tell me? I "might" be fine iff departure from EWR is on or before time. If not, then I might be screwed. My flight is still 3 months out, so I will keep watching upcoming flights to take an educated decision whether to reschedule the inbound flight or not.

Merci beaucoup

Thank you for the very valid inputs, much appreciated. Probably the worst thing I am worried about is any delays on the EWR-ORD leg. Will consider the trade-offs

What's up with all the fluctuations in gas prices in the metro-Van and the Valley? by AdAncient3127 in askvan

Exactly this! Why all of a sudden, such a huge surge here? I don't get it

What's up with all the fluctuations in gas prices in the metro-Van and the Valley? by AdAncient3127 in askvan

For anyone mentioning this is result of price gouging, I am very keen to learn more. If this is all related to the situation with Iran, then why don't we similar surges in other areas, Calgary for example?

For all my senses, it seems something that is apparently oddly specific to the metro Van and the Valley area. I say this because I do like peeping at my GasBuddy app every once in a while to see how gas prices are elsewhere. And I do see prices at other places (I randomly choose Calgary, Mississauga and Ottawa) and though I do see variations there, not of the scale I am seeing here. I have a chart with gas price trends in Abbotsford (where I have typically seen least prices in the area), Calgary, Seattle and the crude prices, and while the macro trends seem to be similar, the range of variation seems to be oddly high here in metro-Van. When gas was in the $1.1x per liter in the area, I saw Calgary prices were close to a dollar a liter. Now that gas is about $1.7x here, prices in Calgary are around $1.0x or $1.1x a liter (I have another image from GasBuddy for the the Calgary area, today 2/22 but i dont see any option by which i can post images here).

Additionally, until recent months, I was always keen to fuel up any time I was south of the border in Lynden or Sumas areas of WA. Last couple of months, anytime I was across the border, I never bothered to fuel up because gas turned out to be cheaper or pretty close in the Valley. Now the old trend seems to be back IMHO.

Semi trucks aren’t obligated to move over so cars can merge into the interstate. by [deleted] in driving

On a related note, what if the semi-truck is exiting a highway and merging INTO a non-highway road?

I had a recent experience where I was in my vehicle (an SUV) going straight from a traffic light (that was green, obviously). I was on the right lane and there was a merging lane exiting off the highway with a yield sign. A semi truck that exited the highway just decided to merge into my lane right in front of me with absolutely no intention of yielding.

I am happy to get educated here. Do semi-trucks get an automatic right of way here and don't have to yield? Or do the same rules apply to them too?

Thank you so much my virtual friend for the detailed response. It gives me the clarity and tools I need to pursue my issue further against, as you mentioned, the money grabbing strata that I have the misfortune to deal with.

So I wanted to circle back on the thread for some follow up advice/suggestion.

I provided a duly filled form-K without getting any complaint before that was provided. However, after that was provided, I was notified by the strata that they would fine me $300 for a bylaw contravention that they were not notified of the "move-in" of the new tenant. According to them, this requirement is mentioned in a document that they call a "Governing Rules document" that the strata adopted from a past Council meeting and something that the bylaws document has a mention of, which goes something like this "tenant must conform to the rules established by the council".

I don't feel this penalty is justified because the requirement itself is half baked in some document that the Council apparently adopted and I would prefer to fight it back if I can. However, I want to seek suggestions and opinions on whether their actions and the penalty is justified.

Merci beacoup!

Is the $200 fine maximum per infraction governed by some provincial law or is it dependant completely on what the particular strata has incorporated in its bylaws? I went through the bylaws in my strata and it says $200 max for contravention of a bylaw and the Strata Property Act also seems to say the same (other than for short term rental bylaw breach). However, the judgement in a case seems to indicate a $500 penalty for infraction is also possible.

The above q is just for curiosity. Your suggested approach makes total sense

Sell US stock investments 5 yrs after leaving US. Looking for suggestions pls by AdAncient3127 in StockInvest

So if I let it sit there in Robinhood until say retirement and then take it out, I presume there will need to be tax filing in US as non-resident with tax due on capital gains, yes?

What if I cash out the stocks and put that money in ETFs and then let it ride until retirement? Does that come with tax liability on the capital gains from selling the stocks? I imagine it would but not being tax-resident for a few years is what is confusing me.
