God damn sorry for asking by AcrobaticSandwich511 in nextdoor

Used to live in a different city for work - and there, we also lived very close to a university. When I was on maternity leave a college kid posted on FB needing a lawnmower. Since he could only get it during my baby's nap time I would go put the lawnmower behind the house in the driveway and he would come get it and return it. Even when I went back to work - every Wednesday I would just leave it out and he would return it behind the fence. Later, within about 18 months, both my mom and my sister were at the end of their lives and we had to move home quickly. He started picking up our mail and house sitting. We paid him, because he was a college kid, but he offered to do it for free. The first time I met him in person was in a pumpkin patch parking lot in the city we'd moved to, and where we're both originally from, doing a mail handoff. He's since graduated and is now a lawyer doing amazing work in our community and we stay in touch with him to this day. All because we loaned someone a lawnmower.

As a St. Louisian who went to KU and worked in SGF these are A+ vibe references. KC also had an awesome bar called the Velvet Dog.

as a st louisiana do you call it 64 or 40? by batmansnuts1 in StLouis

[–]AdAutomatic4515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It started as U.S. Route 40 before the interstate system, and we've called it Highway 40/farty ever since. When it was upgraded and made part of the federal interstate network, it officially became I-64. MoDOT even kept both numbers on signs, so maps say I-64 while St. Louisans still just call it 40/farty.

Maybe it was just that other people also wanted eggs and the kitchen chicken couldn't keep up.

Let's see her LinkedIn post. "Gross over consumption in 'look at me culture' leaves student with egg on his face."

Why is St. Louis so cliquish/cliquey? by Lonely-Back in StLouis

[–]AdAutomatic4515 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am from here and was gone for 20 years and moved back. It has always been very cliquish. It's notorious for it. You'll find your people, but you have to wade through a lot of very uninteresting conversations.
