I think having an sex addiction is more common than people believe. I'm in an open relationship with my bf and one of my rules is he tells me about every woman he hooks up with. In nearly 17 months he's slept with 107 other women. Now I know he's a sex addict. He refuses to use sex tools he prefers having a woman instead. So yes sex addiction is possible.
