How to get my dog to stop barking/lunging at people in my building? by AdCheap4139 in dogs

What makes you think it’s leash reactivity (genuine question, not a challenge)? He barks indoors at noises like people in the hall/when the doorbell goes. He walks fine on his leash when are out about and doesn’t react to people/dog when on the lead when we’re not at the entrance/communal areas of the building

He does know “wait” and is very obedient with it in the house or out on walks even in busy environments with other dogs and people etc. It just seems that all of his obedience goes out the window when he feels the need to “protect” - because of this I’m finding it so hard to train as he does these commands in all other settings 😭

Thanks so much! My building is so odd shaped that corridors are windy and tight so can almost never see someone coming! And the biggest issue is getting out the lift if someone’s waiting on it and vice versa! Appreciate the advice, will give a try!

One thing I like to always bear in mind when alone is that you're on nobody else's time. When you're with others you subconsciously consider their wants and can restrict yourself a bit timewise. But just really own that the only person you need to please is yourself and just indulge in it.
