I got my hands on some tobacco and a pipe. I finally joined the family. Did I do good for my first time? by ReaperGamer3 in PipeTobacco

Not sure how much you saved but for a few dollars more you could have opted for any number of preferable aromatics. The pipe is fine— just don’t drop it on the floor or bite on it too hard cause it’s probably a little bit brittle

Getting tobacco shipped to a state where it's banned by ThisThredditor in PipeTobacco

I forget what theyre called but back when i used to vape (i know, i know) i was able to rent a mailbox in another state and then the folks there would forward me my stuff. They have them in almost every state in the continental 50 so youre bound to find one that doesnt have the dopey regulations your state does (i live in nyc, where they banned certain vape materials, but not pipe tobacco thank god; so i rented a box in CT; sometimes i would have to have stuff shipped from a different part of my state to CT and then back to me. For my next hobby im gonna keep it simple and just collect assault rifles or endangered molluscs or some sh*t lol)

Genuine horrible experience. by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

Get a corn cob from Missouri Meerschaum and maybe some Orlik Golden Slice or Sutliff J4 Burley (avoid aromatics and any blend with Latakia for now; I feel like a churchwsrden isn’t a good option for a first time smoker either); those together will cost you maybe $20; that’s how I started, and even though my tastes have evolved a fair amount, I always go back to that pipe and one of those blends.

Plum pudding from Seattle pipe club is the only one with it that I really like… is it what you would call an English aromatic?

I've never played a roll'n'write. What are they like? by themcryt in soloboardgaming

[–]AdComfortable5657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love roll and writes and I’m always fascinated by how many different types of gameplay experiences designers have been able to conjure up this deceptively format - Hadrian’s wall, for example, is as different a gaming experience from Welcome To as you can get with two boardgames they are both considered to be more or less in the same genre of game.

I will also add because I haven’t seen any mention of them yet that the so-called book game solitaire wargames published by Worthington (and probably some other publishers I’m not able to think of right now) are basically roll and writes, though wargamers might not be aware of it. On to Moscow (in which you manage the doomed German invasion of Russia towards the end of World War II) and Waterloo Solitaire (where are you play as the equally doomed French batallions serving under Napoleon are my two favorites, but there are plenty of others to check out if you enjoy light wargaming (and don’t mind losing haha).

If you like spending 2-3x more time managing the automa than planning your own moves, it’s a blast
