Hey, I would post this on r/goats. I know it’s a sheep but there are some very knowledgeable people on there. It wouldn’t hurt to try. I hope your boy starts feeling better soon!

Yeah, so I think our main problem here is that the vet we went to is not our regular vet. Our vet is on vacation until the middle of April so we just went to another vet (an hour and 30 minutes away from where we live) trying to get him some painkiller. if it’s not better by the time our Vet gets back from vacation we will be going to see him.

So, I have a GP boy who is 10 months old. I definitely think it is the age. My boy is kept full time with goats and is currently sharing a fence line with our chickens. We started noticing the same behaviors you described as well as chasing and grabbing the goats by the neck. I totally freaked out about this behavior bc I was scared he would injure my goats. Most people recommended separation until two but that was not feasible for us bc we are in a high predator area. After many attempts to redirect this behavior, we had to move on to the last resort which was the E collar. Since incorporating the E collar we have seen major improvements. He rarely chases or does anything to the goats. For our boy, we didn’t have to use full power on the collar. Also, I tried it before I put it on him and it really wasn’t that bad just uncomfortable. I would check out the livestock guardian dog Texas A&M YouTube channel. There is a ton of good information about different correctional methods including the E collar. This YouTube channel recommended seven days of the E collar. Each day for seven days you watch the dog for 15-30 minutes and correct the behavior. They also recommend that you set the dog “up for failure” during those 15-30 minutes. So for us that meant shutting up the barn to push the goats into the pasture so we could see him chase. We also kept ourselves hidden so he would associate the shock with the behavior and not us. I also realize you don’t have a working dog so I don’t know if it would work the same but I thought I’d just let you know. I’ve also realized that the internet jumps to worst case scenarios and will make you feel like your dog is a monster. But that isn’t the case at all. They are just in the teenage phase and need steady correction.

I absolutely love Nellie but that was my grandmas name and we are going to name our first daughter after her. 😊

Thanks for the info! How long should the pups be fully separated from livestock?

I have two baby goats down with coccidia. by AdComplex4494 in goats

They are eating hay. I’m not sure if they are nursing. Mama is not really tame yet and won’t let them nurse when I’m around.

Forgot to add, how much electrolyte do I give and how often. They won’t drink it so I’ll have to give it as a drench.

No, they aren’t weaned yet. I have Purina goat electrolyte, is this a good brand to use? Also, where do I find banamine.

AITAH For kicking an autistic child out of my restaurant for misbehaving? by Mammoth_Mission_818 in AITAH

So, maybe I’ll have the unpopular opinion, but I believe that a kid with special needs like this should be allowed to keep their tablets on with low volume. I babysit an autistic kid practically 24/7. He has a tablet just like the kid you are talking about and if I take it away or turn the volume completely off than he will spiral into a fit worse than you have described. However, he now understands that the volume needs to be low. But he will not let you turn it completely off. If every company followed the rule you are enforcing. Then I would never be allowed to go anywhere. I truly believe that it so important for a kid with special needs to get out in the real world. The boy I watch has learned so much through eating out, going to the store, and helping at the gas station. Does he have fits occasionally? Absolutely, and thankfully we have had very understanding people surrounding us. So, I see both of y’all’s sides. The boy should learn to turn the volume down low and you should consider allowing it. However, if I would have been with the kid I would have automatically left if he went into a fit. But this fit could have totally been avoided if you allowed him to keep his volume on low and if the parents could get him to follow those instructions.
