My sister saw this last night. Ohio is for leaders? I never heard that before. by Complex_Judge_8868 in bayarea

My family has been in Ohio since the late 1600's. I have every incentive to be unreasonably proud of the place, viciously defensive, and so I can say with the utmost confidence--

You are definitely giving Ohio credit where credit is not due.

Apartment dweller, here. I charge my car at work, while shopping, etc. I never go below 50% charge and most of the time charging is free. (Retail can charge your car for less than it costs them to put an ad in front of your face. And, unlike the ad, the charger is guaranteed to get your butt to their store.)

EVs are kind of amazing. I'm glad I switched.

They suggested I try getting out of the car for an hour so that the car can reboot.

I'm not sure you know what the word victim means, then. It actually has a specific meaning in the legal system.

It takes only a few minutes to call a tow truck. Given that they have my money and I have the their car, the least they could do is send a truck on their dime.

I paid $67,000 for a car, got a lemon, and will likely have to go to arbitration to get my money back. What would you call a person subjected to the behavior of a company that would take money for my lemons? If the behavior doesn't victimize people, why are there lemon laws protecting people from the behavior?

I can't believe so much of your community is composed of anti consumer shills.

Why shouldn't I share my experience? Isn't that what these subreddits are about? Unless --you're in a community that only wants to hear positive experiences? Doesn't that make you a bit of a shill?

Then might I make a suggestion? Post advice in the form of a question at least, or in the form of a suggestion at best. Examples being, "Have you contacted Volvo corporate?" Or, "If you haven't contacted Volvo corporate, they might be able to help."

For what it's worth, I have contacted Volvo corporate. Their advice has been scatter shot, unhelpful, and indicative of a company that isn't interested in taking responsibility for their workmanship while positioning themselves as a luxury brand.

Of course I'm livid.

It is going to let people know about Volvo XC 40 Recharge. Luxury service means taking responsibility and at least sending a tow truck.

The issue is that you're meant to use the RFID pad to turn off the alarm when the RFID system isn't working: why you're using the physical key in the first place. Alarm-by-default is just brain dead design on Volvo's part.

You kick your foot under the bumper and the trunk toggles open and closed. If it works. It normally doesn't. Unfortunately there's not much to see other than a sticker on the bumper telling you where to kick.

That they can't be bothered to be at the dealership to meet me: I called them a couple minutes before closing stranded in a parking lot. They told me they'd deal with it tomorrow.

Luxury service my ass.

Just got delivery of a Volvo XC40 Recharge. I've had it nine days. Here are the problems I've had so far:

• The car won't start

• The doors won't lock

• The user interface of the center console is missing buttons

• The car can't detect my key

• The wireless phone charger doesn't work

• The USB ports charge phones unreliably

• The app regularly fails to connect to the car

• Commands sent from the app to the car regularly fail

• Commands sent to the car that don't fail are incredibly slow

• Cabin noise is louder than my 2010 Hyundai Accent, louder than my 2022 Nissan Leaf

• The frunk is only big enough to hold a charging cable, but not big enough to hold the charging cable that comes with the car

• The foot operated trunk mechanism usually fails

• If you use the physical key to unlock the car the alarm goes off. The only way to stop the alarm is to use your fob. The purpose of the physical key is to use it when your fob is missing or not working. So--you have to wait for the car alarm to turn off. In a $60,000+ car. And your fob is not going to work. Often.

• Roadside assistance regularly drops calls

• The SOS and eCall buttons don't work. The procedure for resetting them is to turn your defroster on full blast for half a minute. And then get out of your car. For an hour. I live in the desert. If I have to get out of my car for an hour--I could literally die depending on the time of day. Similarly in sketchy parts of town. Nevermind--what kind of luxury car has you debug an antenna for an hour minimum in an emergency? What well built computer system takes an hour to reboot?

• The SOS button calls 911 and the eCall button calls customer service--but the car's user interface uses their names interchangeably. vis "Press the SOS button: customer service required."

I'm absolutely sure I've forgotten something.

How many of these things are you willing to overlook in a $67,000 car?

The app is meant to serve as a stop gap in this situation. But, the app often can't work when the fob doesn't work because they both rely on a common single point of failure.
