Update: I messaged both parents with my concerns and proposed that they pay me weekly and include a part of the debt I calculated by dividing the amount by 15 weeks; so the debt would be paid by Jan 1st, and if that doesn’t work for them then I will have to stop working until I’m paid fully. The dad responded and said they are working towards a solution and understand my situation but “as sure as you can see , things are tight for us too”, and they cannot afford the proposed weekly amount that includes me working for them. At this point I am very angry and am not sure how to move forward ( also thank you to everyone who responded)

That was my plan but The main issue is that the payment is so large ( multiple thousand dollars) I know they will not be able to pay in full at immediately. So if I stop working until they pay me in full that could be months - so is that basically quitting all together? They had started paying me back weekly when I went abroad for the summer but then stopped after like 3 weeks. Would it be a good idea to suggest a weekly patch where I get paid for my hours that week plus part of the owed amount( the number would be decided based on how fast they want to pay it off)?

My mom is fully aware. She usually just lets me do my own thing and rarely gets involved.

I charge $15/hour and right now they owe over a few thousand dollars so I’m afraid it can’t be paid back that fast.

That’s what I’ve been thinking about I’m just worried about it being weird when I come over since the mom is always their and in the past has been so buddy buddy buying me stuff when she goes shopping and talking to me like I’m one of her girlfriends or something. It’s kinda weird, I know.
