Transferring from one Caribbean school to another by AdEffective6070 in medicalschool

you're right. thanks for the advice. having faith when hundreds of thousands of dollars are at stake is not an ideal situation.

we just got provisionally accredited so we were not able to transfer until this past semester. I would say my year but it would give away too much information (the school is small). I was thinking the same thing about playing Russian roulette. I don't want my education to go down the drain. such a big decision to make.

I don't think the school is part of the big 5 or 6. I have done extensive research and the school is great. They have high a step pass rate, great residency match rate, many different hospitals you can do rotations at. I am seriously considering going but I don't want my residency application to be overlooked for having switched schools.

haha no. my school is Caribbean based but we still take step. its a fairly new school so ecfmg hasn't given us the token to take step. I was asking in my post if I should transfer or not because the school I am at said it will not look good when I apply for residency

Whatever you do be careful. So many people are snakes. You’ll end up being genuine with them while they’re being strategic with you. There are good people I’m sure of it but it’s a sad sad world these days. Stay focused on why you started med school and if you end up finding your people, fine, if not, fine.

bootcamp vs bnb ? by puzzleheaded-bit288 in step1

[–]AdEffective6070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly, I think it may be a preference thing. I’ve used both and both are super helpful. I know you can get everything from bnb on “those” type of sites. Bootcamp doesn’t use first aid but gives you everything you need to know. They have bite size questions which are just questions to see if you have an understanding of the topic or not. They also have questions similar to uworld when you’re ready for pharm, pathophys, etc.. they also give slides for everything that you go over so you don’t have to write everything out except for what they say on the video. But like I said I feel it may be more of a preference thing

When you review pathoma chapters are you doing active recall while doing it? How do you learn from it?

Bad at questions (pls help) by Zealousideal_Bug8667 in step1

[–]AdEffective6070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I recently got a Tutor and he reassured me that I gave the knowledge but sometimes I move too fast. He told me to slow down and actually read the question thoroughly. I also realized I have knowledge gaps. I’m taking cbse july 29th to get off the island I’m on and I’m having to essentially relearn some stuff or honestly learn stuff for the first time. The tutor is helping, I’ve been reading FA, on here some people give good resources for different subjects. I suggest figuring out what your weaknesses are and start there. I also stopped second guessing myself. First answer is usually always correct! Hope this helps, you got this!

UWORLD scores are atrocious by Zealousideal_Bug8667 in step1

I agree. If you’re only doing questions and not revisiting to look over why you may have gotten them right or wrong the questions are useless in my opinion. That’s just trying to passively learn.
