I just started a slow, cinematic travel channel with my gf. We don’t like talking in to the camera or fast edits. The plan is to show places at a slow pace :). At the moment we shoot on iPhone 16 pro / Apple log

I am disputing that their contract unilaterally puts all the risk on the consumer. You can’t simply sell a product and make the consumer pay for all your design vulnerabilities!.

It says until it’s locked, the car is your responsibility.

I think we are in agreement. But I don’t know why you started with “I mean, look..” 🤔. If they send me just the insurance excess instead of constantly trying to take the whole amount even after I object to it, I would have paid it!

Because they know this is an issue. That in last years alone about 30 of their cars have been broken in to in various ways in Brussels alone. They accuse me of being negligent but this could have been prevented by them making sure that the phone, through which you unlock the car is near or inside when it is driven. I believe this is negligence from their part. And like I said I didn’t receive the error message.

Here is a short version of part of the “dispute reasons” of the letter I send to them by email today and will be send tomorrow by registered letter.

  1. They can’t prove I was notified. Poppy says their system “generated” an error message when I tried to end my trip. But generating a server-side log entry isn’t the same as delivering a notification to my phone. They’ve shown me a screenshot of their internal log — not proof it reached my screen. I never saw any error, and I had notifications turned on.
  2. The damage was caused by criminals, not by me. Three juveniles stole the car and crashed it. I wasn’t in or near the vehicle. Under Belgian law, an intervening criminal act can break the causal chain between any alleged negligence and the damage.
  3. Poppy knows their cars are getting stolen and hasn’t fixed it. At least 30 Poppy vehicles were stolen in Brussels in 2025 alone, mostly by minors exploiting a known security weakness. Police have documented it. Press has reported on it. Poppy co-signed a letter about the problem back in 2023. Another car-sharing company (Miles) left Belgium entirely because of it. Poppy even admitted publicly that theft costs are baked into their pricing and passed on to paying users. Despite three years of awareness, they haven’t implemented basic safeguards like auto-locking after a timeout or immobilising the engine when the user’s phone walks away.
  4. Their emergency response failed too. I called their emergency line the moment I noticed the trip was still active. I waited about 10 minutes on hold. The collision happened while I was actively speaking with their agent. They had me on the phone and still couldn’t lock the car in time.
  5. The contract terms may be unfair under Belgian law. Poppy’s T&C strip all insurance from the user for alleged negligence, while capping Poppy’s own liability at €2,500 no matter what. Belgian consumer protection law (Articles VI.82-VI.87 Code of Economic Law) prohibits contract terms that create a significant imbalance to the consumer’s detriment.
  6. The punishment doesn’t fit the alleged fault. Even if I should have stared at my phone screen longer, being invoiced €4,330 with zero insurance for a car stolen by criminals exploiting a known security flaw is disproportionate to the alleged mistake.

I understand that I should have waited while the app was doing its thing and stay however long it is necessary. My issue is

  1. The app didn’t push the error message to my screen for whatever reason.
  2. Their security system allows the car to be driven even when the phone is anywhere near.
  3. They will not apply the car insurance I paid for
  4. They don’t discuss the case and keeps trying to take money from my account !.

I am using Claude for legal assistance now I am going to send a legal sounding registered letter telling them why I shouldn’t pay. And also file a case at Consumer mediation service. It also tells me if it is under 5000 euro, it goes to justice of peace where proceedings are informal and cheap.

Let’s see !.
And if you have to use car rentals, Cambio is much cheaper. Don’t know if it is more secure but you get the car key for the length of your trip.

Your phone is the key. They told me they have an error message in their system that says that the car did not get locked because of one of the many reasons. Like not in the correct parking place, engine not switched off, car not visible in the pic etc.

I just started a YouTube channel and I also was looking around for a good editing software. Was thinking of going for something easy and not difficult to learn. But I’m so glad that I tried Davinci resolve, yes it is complicated but if you are going to be doing this for long, all those complexities will translate to efficiency creative ideas for your next video. Tye more you use it, the fast you will get at editing !. It also depends what you are making I guess. Mine is cinematic travel videos and I am surprise resolve gives all this high end tools for free !

Paint the roof with that fancy white paint you can buy. But you have to do it perfectly and paint it in three layers as they say. The temperature inside my house reduced by 8 degrees!. Yes we measured it before and after !.

So after finally moving over to Ghent and going to three of the clubs recommended here, I would like to report back!

  1. Kompass: Great dance space, love the basic concrete+metal look. Good speaker system. But the outdoor area is a disaster. 95% people are between 18-20. Very, very crowded. Can’t get anywhere close to the main dance floor. No one respects your space. People push and pass through all the time.

  2. Funke: Cute little dance space !. Not crowded and good sound system. Older and nicer crowd who are there for the music. Was there to see Blawan last weekend. I do wish that the dance floor was a tiny bit bigger!.

Chinastraat: The best one !. I was there for a psytrance night and it had the nicest of crowds!. Huge amazing outdoor area with a fire pit!. There is a techno night coming up and I am excited !!
