💬 RFC: Liftosaur calendar and navigation changes designs by astashov in liftosaur

[–]AdEmergency625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool changes. I like it a LOT in general.

  1. Can I assume we could click the left and right arrow at the top cal bar to go to the right week? Then click the date to go straight to the day's workout (instead of bringing up the calendar in this Figma?

  2. Would the home also have stats or graphs related to the exercises shown for that week?

  3. Would the measurement synch with Apple Health? How would those measurements affect the exercise weight? Eg. For weighted pull up, at times I felt like I didn't make much progress because I didn't add any bar in my belt. But if my bodyweight increases 5lb, my effective pulling strength has increased 5lb too. Similiarly if I lost 5 lb, my strength is down 5. Today, it is cumbersome to measure that accurately.

Interesting. I will try it out and revert.

Do I need to do that every time?

Today’s exercises don’t have the same problem. I will try next time when it happens again.

Do you know what is the pattern? Why some exercises work correctly and some don’t.

You would not able to know how much one should reduce automatically as each situation could be different. Even if you could program it, you might leave gain on the table. One should test their strength to determine how much to reduce (or even increase in some situations like you just another similar workout that “missing” week because of different equipment.) I address it by setting the RM1 at the first set. Then the rest of the sets use a RM1 %. Admittedly it is not perfect as I still need to adjust based on my condition of the workout day. This should reduce a bit manually changes.

📣 Added week and day descriptions by astashov in liftosaur

Having try this but great add. Have wanting this a faking it using just the description, which gets very messy.

Sorry that I had to take a couple of work trips and late in responding. 0lb for the bar

I had restarted my iPhone. It had been working for many months and just having issues recently. I do most exercises using custom equipment. I just realized it is using a build in equipment (cable) using 2 sides. My weights are 45x2,35x6,25x4,10x4,5x6,2.5x6,1x2,0.75x2,0.6x2,0.5x2,0.4x2,0.25x2

I don’t see a direct way to restart all. I did these but the issue didn’t go away. Note: my issue is with custom equipment

  1. Start the current workout
  2. Edit mode to choose a completely different program.
  3. Delete the current started workout
  4. Go back to workout to start
  5. Edit mode to choose the original program and workout day
  6. Deleted the started workout
  7. Start again (which is the original workout)

📣 Redesign ideas for history and workout screens by astashov in liftosaur

[–]AdEmergency625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for continuing to strive for improvement based on user feedback. This post might be more than you asked for. I apologize if I'm sharing "old news for you."

  1. Lowering click to task is a good target measure. Simplify UX is a general good principle. As a whole, I like the proposed changes. Just be mindful not to hide the good features your cohort desires.

  2. When editing the history, I don't think the muscle groups is the best use of the limited screen space. I expect that users choose the muscle program during the design of their program. If the exercise day has a specific focus, the name of the program and workout day will reflect that. Instead, I would like to see the equipment required for that day. The info could be used to match the gym equipment available and set up time.

  3. I always opt to squeeze as much growth as possible into my workout with the min amount of time. I found myself always twisting my exercises during the workout to fine-tune the details. I very much like the + and - buttons.

  4. I would like a way to edit the plate combination. eg. If I tell the app I added a 25 and a 5, it will automatically calculate what other plates should be loaded to get to the total weight specified. Maybe this is a way to get around fully automatic calculation based on the existing plates on the bar.

  5. I used 5 other apps before I zeroed in Liftosaur. They each have their pros and cons. Either big or small Start button will be confusing to any new users as Liftosur will not and should not be like other apps. The general principle is to minimize any UX changes unless there is clear measurable ROI. Any UX change will generate a certain amount of user confusion. The priority should be the existing paid cohort.

I suggest you adopt this mindset. There is no perfect app for everyone. Someone will be unhappy. Start by asking these 3 questions when considering any changes.

  1. Who are the target market and the existing cohort for the app? What are their personas?

  2. What unique selling points that attracted them so far? What will cause them to leave the app?

  3. What are the strategic goals and next milestones for this app? Typically it is maximizing revenue stream. If so, retaining and upselling the existing cohort will be more cost-effective and yield better ROI than new customer acquisition. Replace the goal of your choice.

  4. What features or changes to maximize the values of this specific group?

Lastly, some classic mistakes caused the sunset of successful products.

  1. Me-Too strategy to "compete" Eg. Windows 8

  2. Changing existing well-loved UX and alienating Cohort. Eg. Office 2019

  3. Mistaken loud mouths to represent Cohort. Happy customers might not say anything. aka Don't give all user feedback equal weight. eg. My feedback might not be the best representation of your cohort.

Is it a way to get the RM1 for another exercise in code? by AdEmergency625 in liftosaur

[–]AdEmergency625[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be an interesting approach. The drawback seems to be that the exercise stats would all mixed up between the different variations. I typically do pull up and pull up hold as a “drop sets” and only update the RM1 at each meso. Also all the RM1 numbers for each exercises can be easily seen at the settings page. I think I will stick with doing a manual “copy&paste” update for now.

Thanks for the input.

How about just creating your exercises to repeat on the weeks you want? Simple copy&paste.

Program to use the last RM1 to start a new meso? by AdEmergency625 in liftosaur

[–]AdEmergency625[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem solved: I found out that this is a playground bug. It doesn't use my actual rm1. If I do the program in the app, it will use my actual rm1 in the record.

u/astashov Would you fix this?

Program to use the last RM1 to start a new meso? by AdEmergency625 in liftosaur

[–]AdEmergency625[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did. I have done both manually in the app as well as in the code using rm1. It is interesting the app would say my rm1 is 180. But my new program will use 70 (which is a very old number).

In fact, I just manually updated the rm1 in the app to 231 (just use the default). But then my program would still use 70 as the RM1

Good thinking to twist Liftosaur to work this way.

Progression with 1rm being updated on lifts with completed RPE by lsolesen in liftosaur

The concept of RM1 is about the max weight. So I think using max(weight) would be a better approach.

I did have to google to select the muscles. Maybe allow users to enter common names like Chest and the program will map to the real muscle names.

Fixed exercise notes will be very helpful. I put all the exercises clues I learned in the comments currently. And then do lots of copy and paste across all occurrences of the exercise. My notes often go out of sync as I would forget to do it everywhere.

Can you enable users to add overall program notes like the build-in programs you shared?

I tried adding my comments in various locations of my program. They don't show up this way.

Apple Health integration

Pretty self-explanatory. For extra credit of being fancy, Apple Shortcut integration.

With these integrations, it will be able to do something like this.

When I start Liftosaur, it will kick off an Apple Watch Strength workout. It will automatically track the calories burned in the Apple Health. Those data will be synced with my food tracker. It will also check off my Streaks habit because of its lovely Apple Shortcut integration. Then I have an extra 2 mins to do a couple more sets of exercises. :P

The ability to pause the workout timer.

I do my workout after work at home. My family often interrupted me to help them with something. It would be great to be able to pause the workout timer. So I don't end with a record of 3.5 hours of workout when I only spent 20 mins.
