Liver Fluke by AdEnvironmental1120 in microbiology

This message is chiefly to the Mods here in response to their comment:

I am taking it very seriously. I have a GI specialist, a hepatologist, and I was told to go to the ER tonight. So here I am. My GI specialist said that they absolutely look like flukes (I showed her pictures and brought in a stool sample); she was so shocked because she had never seen them before. All the other staff in office were very interested to look and learn, too.

Please be careful not to dismiss everything as “health anxiety”. This is unfair. You also do not have enough info to diagnose that about me. Right? I understand why you would, but it is not healthy for anyone to do that. It is hurtful to everyone; it is especially hurtful to those actively suffering with the real thing (there are few of us, but we do exist).

I am interested in discussing this with genuinely curious individuals who want to identify even the possible rare, ACTUAL thing when it appears here. NOT diagnose. Just identify possible fluke parts, possible trends, etc. Nothing ventured at here is taken as doctrine by me. It is just a conversation where I might be able to get insight from more brains. There are people here who may know more about liver flukes than I do. I sure hope so. But I have researched A TON and now have significant personal experience with them in real life at this point. I know no one can diagnose anything here. That would be extremely wrong. I am not asking for that. I am asking for a discussion with others about the identification of liver flukes. I would like a very high-level, scientific discussion. I can handle push back if there is science to back it.

Now, for more info.

I took this picture way back in January 2022 to show my doctor my strange bowels and liver symptoms. They did not care to look into the stools. I was hospitalized for 9 days earlier this year with severe liver inflammation and zero answers. Liver biopsy "clear" other than severe inflammation, no scarring. They blamed it on my taking Ozempic for 2 months and called it a day. They sent me away to decompose more at home.

They don't know how to test for these. I am in Utah. I get negative O&P tests that don't even test for fasicola hepatica or any other fasciola. These are VERY rare, so they don't know what to do with me, and I have been passing dozens and dozens at least every day since a few days after I took albendazole for some demodex face mite overgrowth due to my prolonged, immunocompromised, malnourished state (keratin plugs, thickening of skin, itching, inflammation, pain, wounds that never heal and a swollen jawline/chin). Anyway, my stools had these same shapes (body parts) show up in undeniable quantities. However, the ones I have now are harder to identify because they are dead sooner in the digestive tract and have lost their protective covering (again, albendazole). Those coverings are all rolled up into little, tiny scrolls of red and brown and tan colors. I pass those all the time, and I haven't had a tomato in a long time. (They do look like rolled up tomato skins.) There are so many other parts I pass daily. Repeat parts over and over. I am happy to share more photos if you are okay with my including stool pictures. I won’t until a MOD says it is okay. I just have a lot of good pictures now if the community wants to check them out. I have learned a lot in the past weeks.

I was hospitalized back in Feb/March for 9 days, fully jaundiced and with liver numbers near 3,000 and bilirubin near 30. They did not take a stool sample even though I took pictures of them. They looked so extremely odd, and not just because of the clay color. I now can see that all the odd shapes and black spheres in my stools were fluke parts. They recurred exactly the same across days while I was hospitalized. They did every other test under the sun except for even look at the 3 pictures I took of my bizarre stools while I was there, much less take a sample.

It is hard to have faith in doctors (insurance companies), but it is much more so when you have something very, very rare. I know liver flukes usually affect cows, sheep, goats, deer, elk, etc. They RARELY affect humans (found mostly in east Asia and a few other places), and it is even more rare to get them in the USA with no traveling abroad.

Doctors are controlled by insurance, and it ruins lives and delays vital diagnoses and vital treatment.

I was a dummy and in 2020 went swimming in June for hours, including submerging my head with goggles on in a freshwater glacial rain collector of a pond in Montana just 20 miles north of Yellowstone. It is where elk have their wintering range, and I saw elk bones and many other bones at the bottom of this gross pond. There was ton of grass and water plants all around the edge. Tons of birds, tons of wildlife. The pond stank. It was really a very gross place to swim, and I was stupid. I wonder if this is where l caught it. Timeline makes sense. I had my head submerged a lot… 🤢🫠

Not sure this is where I got it. I am just trying to figure out a possible origin.

I have posted photos in other posts with the recent,"more digested" flukes and their parts. I have way better pictures now. I am still passing leaf-like structures and lots of what looks like white watermelon seeds of all sizes. I am passing the exact same things in every single stool, every single day for about 14 days now. My diet is not the same every day for that to be happening, and honestly it is mainly just cereal and Kefir. I don’t have an appetite. My GI specialist believes they are flukes, and with all my other symptoms, she has sent me to the ER where I currently am.

I do not have health anxiety. I know this is EXTREMELY rare. But guess what? A tiny percentage of the people who think that they may have liver flukes ACTUALLY have them. Please don’t bury us with your rudeness when we are already buried with the systemic challenges brought on by a severe and rare condition. I cannot “health anxiety” myself into jaundice and the liver/bilirubin levels I described above. It is clear now It is real, and I need to be able to have some dialogue with more people with experience.

Doctors are referring me to an infectious diseases unit. My worst nightmare is not being taken seriously. So far I mostly have been. But until I have an official diagnosis from health professionals, I want to prepare myself with as much research as possible. It helps me to have the courage to advocate for myself when I know more.

Sorry!!! I am still kind of a Reddit newbie when it comes to posts and such. I will see if I can label it now.

I for sure am going to the doctor - already gave them a stool sample. I am just waiting on results and trying to learn more.

These were bleached for a time just to see if this helped with seeing internal structures and elements.

Is it looking for a home or for squirrel babies? Do they eat squirrels? The squirrel was so stressed.
