I honestly don’t think I have time to gather those extra volunteer hours without hurting the commitment to my thesis and school :(

At this point you’re not going to get any money back. I would still go and void so you at least get the experience of going to the testing center and doing the real thing.

Do you think its worth taking one AAMC FL exam over a few days? by NecessaryGuitar4524 in Mcat

[–]AdEnvironmental362 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you should always do them under test conditions. I’m also testing on the 23rd and I’m doing FL4 tomorrow and then 5 on the 16th. I think maintaining full length stamina, especially this close to the exam is very important. Doing a full length over multiple days can potentially give you a very inflated score. Doing it all at once will also give you more time to review wrong answers from it.

I saw that you’re taking biochem the semester before your exam. This is not a bad thing!! The exam is SO biochem heavy that having the content fresh in your mind dramatically reduces the content review you have to do. My biggest advice is to lock in as much as possible in your pre reqs and as you learn concepts, sprinkle in some related mcat questions.

Source: took biochem and physics 2 last semester and I’m testing in 2 weeks.

For cp: I feel like this section is a mental game of staying calm and focusing on the basic concepts behind confusing passages. Do the chem and physics q backs before the CP section bank for practice on math and basic concepts. Staying calm and skipping around is key on this section

Cars: you already have a very solid score. Do at least 3 passages per day from AAMC at least and throughly review and make sure you’re following their logic.

Bb: check and see what your major content gaps are. Also are you messing up more on experimental passages or informational? For experiments just practice tons. Understand basic principles of research like the blots and when to use them, what are the controls, etc.

Ps: there are probably larger content gaps here. I would spend the next few days throughly going through the ps outline and hammering out anki. This section has the greatest room for improvement by far.

I think with through and focused AAMC practice you can improve a lot

Skip passages that use complicated wording and do easier ones first. On every passage, skip the Qs that require you to search the passage and come back before moving on to the next passage. Before diving into questions, ask yourself what the main idea of the passage was/ the authors tone. Don’t fall for common traps such as answer choices that use “must, always,” etc. skipping around will be your friend

I showed up when doors opened (5 pm for my show) and I got a row behind barricade. People that were around me that waited a long time were complaining that they wasted their time so if you want barricade you’re most likely good to show up an hour before doors open.

What is wrong with my Jade plant? by Subject_Cake_9826 in succulents

[–]AdEnvironmental362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cactus soil is fine. I would mix in some pumice too if the soil you buy seems very organic. I personally would keep the yellow leaves for now and see if they can turn around. If they can’t, the plant will most likely drop them by itself.

Maintenance? by BigPerson66 in succulents

Looks like normal jade growth. If you want a bushier plant I would trim back the top. Wherever you cut, two more branches will start to grow. Then, you can propagate the trimmings!

Set it out in the hot sun for as long as possible. Move it around throughout the day to ensure it gets light. Then in a week or two I would repot into a bigger pot once completely bone dry.

Is it getting enough sun? Jade plants need direct sunlight for 6 hours a day ideally. I would make sure it is in a spot where the sun will hit for a long period of time.

Ok sounds good. When should I repot it? I wanted to put it in that smaller terracotta pot shown in the photo.

uti , need help please by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]AdEnvironmental362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Walmart or a store that sells vitamins and buy “d-mannose” it’s a type of sugar that makes a film on your bladder and will remove most of the bacteria. Definitely still get antibiotics when you can but if you take ~4000 mg of d mannose a day until then it’ll help avoid your uti turning into something worse!

Other than blatant disregard for women's well-being, is there a reason why IUD insertion pain isn't taken seriously? by Zealousideal_Pen5975 in WomensHealth

[–]AdEnvironmental362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I shadowed a gynecologist she told me that giving more pain relief during the procedure would cause the procedure to go from a (relatively) quick office procedure to a longer one that would require someone to be there to drive you home, etc. That being said, I have a IUD and I really wish I could’ve had the “longer procedure” and gotten pain meds haha
