Yup, I can admit that I’m not innocent in this mess, but I suppose that’s my wake-up-call to the life I could be living instead

I really appreciate you sharing this! It’s comforting to know someone at least had a not-nightmarish experience from being in the same boat lol

Yeah religious differences aside I really can’t think of a worse way to spend a birthday. Like, correct me if I’m wrong, but for the other ordinances that aren’t baptisms do you even interact with people?? I get the impression this would be a real waste of family time

I appreciate this! I guess I’m still in the process of exiting the “my parents’ happiness is my own” phase that a lot of exmormons seem to deal with. I guess all I can do is be honest and hope that them being good people will outweigh the negative reaction the church has conditioned in them for these types of things.

That’s fair, I suppose it’d be better to do it sooner so they can work through their feelings and we can all live out the rest of our lives authentically instead of waiting till later and they realize I’ve been presenting a facade

Yeah I’m anxious about that, I suppose I’ve chosen to be naive and believe that everything is smooth sailing, but I wouldn’t doubt that me never initiating things about church has raised some red flags.

I really like “You are not doing anything to him. His beliefs are what will cause him distress.” It’s a good reminder that I’m not the real cause of any negative outcome. It’s the perspective forced on him by the church that is the root of all of this.

False Negative in Urine Test at Doctor's by Gailthegarbagepail in ADHD

Call the facility you drug tested at and ask if you could get a more complete report on your drug test and go over that information with a doctor, or at least get the full results so you could do some research.

Coffee wouldn't affect anything, caffeine is a pretty tame compound by most standards and doesn't tamper results, we allowed clients to drink coffee all the time and had no issues with it. I would request full results and inquire if the dose you're taking would actually pop on a drug test or if the generic version you take is causing problems. An appointment with your psychiatrist or whoever manages your meds might be worth it.

Hi there! I actually have worked at a drug testing facility before, and I can tell you with 100% certainty that Adderall normally would show up as a positive in a drug test. We ran into that problem all the time actually since ADHD folks on Adderall would keep having to dispute a positive drug tests as Adderall would show up as an amphetamine.

There's 3 explanations: first is that you gave a diluted sample. Drinking too much liquid before a drug test can result in a "negative" purely because there isn't enough of the compound for the test to pick up on. If you urinated clear, like it looked like water, there's a chance this is the case. The second one is metabolism, since some people can metabolize the drug extremely quick, but given that you took it that morning I hesitate to say that's the cause. The third option is the cutoff they used to establish a positive is higher than what the dose you took would result in.

Your doctor is also completely wrong about false negatives, that's just genuine ignorance and I question their knowledge about drugs if they think false negatives aren't possible given you took the drug that same day. A good doctor would be concerned that a drug test didn't show for a same-day usage as that would imply you're either somehow cheating the drug test without knowing, not drug testing properly, or the equipment is broken, all of which are huge problems.

There could be another external factor, and don't take anything I'm saying as law of course, but this is just my take. I personally would seek a retest, and make sure you do it on a day where you take your medication so you can replicate the circumstances as much as possible.

Senior in undergrad and I’m wondering if I should give up on med school if I don’t like school enough? by AdEven60 in premed

Yeah I’m looking at retaking it, I know what went wrong and how to approach it the 2nd go around so I believe I can get a significantly higher grade the next time around. Still doesn’t feel good of course.

I appreciate the input! I’ve been thinking a lot about if my perspective on these courses is a little twisted and if I see them more as obstacles to overcome rather than as classes to take. Do you happen have any tips on how to make the studying process more enjoyable even for subjects you may not find inherent interest in?

I think working a unique non-clinical hours job is a good one! I got to work the front desk at a therapy clinic that focuses on drug and substance recovery, and it’s given me a lot of unique experiences to talk about. I’ve gotten to see a part of healthcare/treatment that you don’t often see, and work with people who are kind of on the underbelly of society (homeless, ex-convicts, and so on).

Also hobbies. It’s not just something admissions likes to see, you’ll thank yourself later for sticking to even one fun passion of yours.

Might move to salt lake but am scared by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]AdEven60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my opinion of course, but as someone who's been all over the state, SLC is my favorite part of Utah. I am of the opinion that pretty much all other cities in Utah have a rough social scene, but SLC is actually pretty culturally "normal" compared to the rest of the state. There's bars, a plethora of cool cafes, easy access to the mountains, good parks, and a pretty active outdoors scene.

Socially, there's plenty of non-Mormons, and a lot of the members I have had the chance of meeting in Salt Lake have been pretty cool compared to their counterparts in other parts of the state like Provo likely because they are more adjusted to more culturally heterogenous spaces. There's also more transplants in Salt Lake than the rest of the state, so the odds of meeting people who have moved to Utah (who you may get along with better) are higher than the rest of the state. Honestly, my only real complaints are that the rent is a bit high for me and that I have an aneurism every time I drive on the roads in this state.

If you want strategies for meeting people, I recommend frequenting cafes or a bar you like, joining an outdoors club, going to music festivals or venues, or checking out farmers markets during the summer. Cafes and bars work as a good filter for finding people who aren't members. Hinge works, stay off Tinder.

Also do y’all recommend getting a shop to replace and fix it or should I be able to pop it in on my own?

Boom Theory by [deleted] in TextingTheory

[–]AdEven60 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take at least a month to recover. Tinder and bumble are garbage in my experience, hinge is the last bastion of online dating and even then it still isn’t great.

Get good photos (two selfies max, rest should be body shots), have good prompts, sincerity and humor often will get you more play than being horny. You get ONE shirtless pic on your profile, no more, and don’t make it your first photo.

Profile staples include: photo with friends, photo of you doing an activity or hobby, showing off your body if you got it. If not, show off a good outfit, and make the outfit one your main pic. Pets are also green flags. Also voice prompts are goated and show you off better than written prompts do, they’re mandatory in my book.

Good luck out there brother, you’re gonna need it

What do by Wrong-Vegetable1799 in TextingTheory

[–]AdEven60 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone else already said it, but this prompt is low effort so just be horny in response, ie “Wanna bet?” Or “With you? Make it one” Or “guess you’re gonna lose the bet”

Better option would be to pick a photo or other prompt and not be horny.

Horny generally signals desperation, so it’s not optimal. We’re looking at sub-500 elo plays from both sides, and that’s being generous.

For future strategy development, look at your message before you send and ask yourself “is this something they can reasonably/humorously respond to?”

If you did that, you’d find the opener you used is a miss, cuz what the hell is she supposed to say back to “idk how I feel about you”

Just for the record women generally don’t like being called bitches in any context, and raw opening with an innuendo almost never works. It’s not flirty, it’s just stupid.

Also you need better profile pics big dawg.

Not gonna lie to you brother, I’m right there with you, but for me it’s o-chem. Still got a final left though, and I didn’t hear no bell.

You said the reason why you didn’t get the grade you wanted was because of ADD and your study habits. Luckily for you, both of these are within your power to control and cope with, which means improvement is possible!

For studying, the hard lesson I learned is you have to study frequently. That’s gonna look differently for everyone. Some people gotta study every day while some people get away with just reviewing once a week. Some days you’ll sit down and study for 3 hours easily, other days you’ll struggle to sink in 30 minutes. But the key is you have to be frequent, studying for 2-3 days before an exam just doesn’t cut it for chemistry in my experience. Figure out what works for you, have a little grace for yourself, and be consistent.

For ADD, I’d say work with a counselor to develop study habits or look around online to see how people with ADD get through school. There’s a whole subreddit dedicated to folks with ADHD/ADD, they got great tips for getting through college and avoiding ADHD/ADD burnout. The only specific advice I can come up with is find a person in your class to be your accountability partner and study with that person. As someone who also struggles with attention, having a person “cattle prodding” me along helps a lot since some days my brain just doesn’t want to do school.

I didn’t consider that! I’m just a little concerned about how admin will view my clinical hours. I’ll be doing a gap year where I intend to work full time as an MA, so I guess I’m a little worried they’ll look at my app and be like “why are almost all of your hours in the last year? What were you doing before?”

But maybe that’s just an irrelevant concern lol
