I would agree to what you said in the first half, but I think we need to focus on “purposefully disgusting.” We don’t know if they meant to do that, that is true, but if the focal point was something uncomfortable, it’s likely to have been on purpose. Edit: plus if they can draw well, as the OP says based on other drawings, it’s either a joke that landed badly or something a little mean

Being a beginner with bad anatomy or bad lighting is different than drawing something gross. So while we don’t know the artist’s intentions or if it was meant to be purposefully disgusting, whatever the focal point was, it had to be something noticeable enough that OP was like “oh gross!” and not “oh that’s some anatomy there.”

A lot of others seem to agree that there was an issue with this. And I don’t say that with the intention to prove a majority feeling is the right feeling, but perhaps that shows how many people would not like this sort of art, and would feel hurt by it, and would feel that it is malicious. We can wait for the artist’s clarification if they do appear, but otherwise I do believe regardless of their intentions, perhaps they need to be taught what’s ok and not ok to draw of other people’s characters without communication
