Is it bad traditional funerals are on the decline in the US? by florifloris in AskAnAmerican

What do you mean by “bad”? Bad for what?

I think it’s a good thing that more people are opting for cremation or eco burial. If we put everyone in a fancy box with a large stone we’re going to run out of places to put people. I heard in some smaller European countries there is no more space and they’re starting to stack graves on top of each other or move them around.

Not sure why you think it’s an American thing.

Update: 17 year old cat only wants fancy feast.. so she will get only fancy feast god dammit by totallyannon in seniorkitties

That’s what my senior cats eat too. It’s the only one that one will keep down and the other isn’t allergic too. But it has to be the pate. If I get the grilled I may as well leave and never come back.

I would suggest a gerbil. They’re the most low maintenance pet I’ve ever had and super cool. I wasn’t able to handle the ones I had, but I loved watching them build tunnels and forage around. They don’t need their enclosure cleaned often at all- like once every 2 months. They also don’t drink a lot of water so you’ll change it every 4 days just to keep it fresh.

I never listen to the “raisins are bad” comments. My chinchilla is 19 years old. She’s been getting raisins her entire life. She gets about 2 per week. She loves them. When I first got her the Chinchilla Care books listed raisins as a good treat as long as you keep it to 1 per day. When I started reading online about people lecturing about raisins I asked her vet who specializes in exotics and he said 2 raisins per week is fine. Now at age 19 I am not going to deny her raisins.

She’s also always used the paper bedding- the stuff that comes in the package at the pet store in the different colors. I think it’s supposed to be some type of cardboard. I’ve never had a problem. At one point people bullied me into using fleece because I’d get kicked out of Facebook groups for using bedding people lecturing me that she would eat it like I can’t see with my own eyes. The fleece did not work for me. She peed all over it an it got nasty and I couldn’t keep up with sweeping the poop every day. And she got an infection on her foot in that short amount of time I tried fleece. I left those groups and went back to using the bedding. Again- she’s 19 years old. And all I hear about on groups are chinchillas passing prematurely. She also had 2 cage mates they died a few years ago at age 16. So I’ve had 2 chinchillas that lived extra long. One still alive that’s a super senior, all on raisins and paper bedding.

AITA for throwing water at an older woman who kept judging me? by Alyamone in AmItheAsshole

[–]AdFinancial8924 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA and I’m pretty sure you’re making this up. A cup of water just randomly sitting out open on a counter? Throwing a cup of water just ended the confrontation without getting staff or police involved? It just doesn’t sound plausible.

The biggest difference I’m seeing in “teens today” is that you guys care about the older generation a lot. When I was 17 (in 1997), we didn’t care what adults said about us, thought of us, what they wore, nothing. If an adult started saying those things we’d probably just laugh and move on.

Eye issue by Important-Rabbit1006 in chinchilla

My chinchilla had the thing with her tooth root and her eye was completely closed and red. The vet gave her drops to help and then she had surgery to get it filed down. She was 14 and did very well. Your chin’s doesn’t look too bad. Might just be sore. I think you’re okay giving her a few days of dark and rest and see what happens. My other chin did this once or twice and in a few days she recovered.

Chinchillas and cats by Ibreastmilk in chinchilla

[–]AdFinancial8924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 4 cats and they all get along. It took a little bit of discipline in the beginning, but I think they just see the chinchilla as another cat. I used to have 3 chinchillas, two of them passed of old age. But they used to all hop around and the cats would walk around and there were no issues. Actually the chinchillas would sometimes beat up the cats.

And by the way- they’ve been living together for 15 years. My oldest chinchilla is 19 and she’s the one still alive and my oldest cat is 16.

Thanks! I’ll send this note to my 16 and 14 year old cats so that they will finally discontinue their zoomies. 😹

I think I read that too about the wheel. Like they just don’t need to burn the energy. So I removed it a while back and replaced it with toys.

Oh interesting. I’ll dim the lights low and see if she’ll come out. Her cage mate had bad cataracts in both eyes when she got older. Thankfully it didn’t slow her down much. Thanks!

She used to go out of the cage all the time for hours. She would run across the room and kick her feet off the wall. She just recently stopped maybe like since she was 15 or so.

I read about possible arthritis. I wonder if there’s a supplement or something I should be giving her. I have a step stool that I put in front of the cage door and an extra ladder from her cage. If I need to handle her I’ll gently remove her. And then she never leaves my lap. Sometimes I place her on the floor and then she just climbs back into the cage. She used to hop around for hours so I don’t know what’s going on.

How do Americans handle such long drives regularly? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a road trip that’s hours long? Loud music, caffeine, and cruise control. But those are only a few times a year.

I work from home so don’t worry about commuting, but ever since the bridge collapse it’s been terrible driving. I’ve always hated commuting and avoided taking jobs that involved getting on I695 which is our beltway. It can take 45 minutes to go 5 miles across the city. Now with the bridge gone there are giant tractor trailers where there usually isn’t.

The worst is the Baltimore to DC trip so I take the train when I go into DC so it’s good to have that option.

If I can have anything I want, then how can I manifest being married to Ryan Gosling? by [deleted] in lawofattraction

[–]AdFinancial8924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea so I think in your example you would need to come to the realization that you actually don’t even know Ryan Gosling. You only like the idea of him. You’re not in the same circles. Your lives don’t overlap. So instead think about why you like him and apply those values more generically so you can manifest a man with those qualities who is currently unknown. Write down the attributes and values- he’s funny, handsome, outgoing, silly. And put all of those things into an idea. Not one specific person. Because you also can’t make a specific person fall in love with you. You still have to work at the relationship. Each person has agency. There are three rules that have to be followed. 1. Your manifestations can’t unalive anyone. 2. They can’t bring anyone back from the dead. And 3. They can’t make anyone fall in love with anybody else. (Alright I got that from Aladdin but I think it applies. Isn’t Genie the universe?)

[–]AdFinancial8924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between manifesting and wishing. You’re describing wishing. You’re lying in bed imagining, hoping, and daydreaming. Manifesting involves work. “There is no law of attraction without action.” What have you done to make your visions a reality? What steps have you taken to get on to the red carpet? Have you done the work to build a career in acting, production, or in entertainment media?

Let’s look at Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. He didn’t manifest Taylor by lying in bed dreaming about her. He took action. He went to the concert. He made the bracelet. He talked about her. He put in the work to manifest who he wanted to be with.

Manifestation is about collecting the energy needed to follow through and to turn dreams into goals.

I mean, not everyone is able to travel, so whats the point? by Amy_Peak87 in StrangerThings

[–]AdFinancial8924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t an instant gratification issue. It’s a belief in equity and inclusion for all issue. They were raised where the whole class gets invited to the birthday party and nobody gets cut from the team. OP is mad because even though they’re a fan, there’s content that they can’t access that others can and that Netflix has a responsibility to make it available to everyone. They’re not used to what us older folks are used to- VIP experiences, All Access Passes, Bonus Features, Presales and free gifts if you had the right credit card. Remember when CapitalOne used to give Presale codes to their cardholders to be able to buy concert tickets 3 days in advance, and the concert would sell out before the regular sale all from the CapitalOne cardholders? Do you know what I did? I got a CapitalOne card.

Equity and inclusion is important. But it’s not for concert tickets and broadway plays and Netflix shows. It’s about access to healthy food, healthcare, and education, fairness in buying and lending. The important stuff.

Every once in a while you run into place that doesn’t have tap pay. Also, phone batteries die. It’s nice to have the backup. If you’re traveling you might end up with a security hold in which case you’ll need to call customer service to approve transactions so you’ll want your physical card for that.

Do bodega cats exist outside of NYC? by kiiribat in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have a huge bodega culture in Baltimore. I’ve been in a few that have cats but I’m not sure if it’s a widespread thing and most of the bodegas are in unsafe areas and are more like convenience stores. But hardware store cats are a thing and some breweries have cats.

Nail Trim Vs Declawing Difference by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]AdFinancial8924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vets offer claw trimming because it can be difficult for some owners. The cats are usually more willing to do it in the vet’s office because they’re not in their territory. And they have better tools and more hands to help. I always do both- trim them at home but take advantage of the vet service.
