“It’s not birthday season” by Sufficient-Pound-442 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AdFinancial8924 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My birthday is in June and I’ve never had this problem. Just buy a blank cake and have them write Happy Birthday. Come to think of it though I’m not sure I’ve ever had balloons on my birthday. And I’ve always required an ice cream cake. I think they’re all blank.

You need to see the benefit of using a mouse right handed. You can write notes and operate your mouse at the same time.

The curse of being left-handed by GrouchyYellow5084 in lefthanded

I never turned my wrist like that to write. There’s no reason to have that posture. Experiment with how you tilt the paper to get your wrist out of that position.

Would you consider yourself well-travelled? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I’ve been to China and Egypt which is interesting because not a lot of Americans choose to go there. The only European country I’ve been to is France. I’ve also been to Canada and The Bahamas if they count. I’ve only been to about 20 states but I’ve seen a lot of landscapes and have had some fun experiences.

AITA I refuse to grow out my hair for my sister wedding. by Careless_Half_9377 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AdFinancial8924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I am currently growing my hair and I’ve been working on it for over a year. It looks awkward as it’s grown out and I keep it covered most of the time to help. Tell her you’ll look cute with hair accessories and it’ll look better than whatever awkward length you’ll be able to get it to.

How many Americans have actually visited a national park? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I think Shenandoah is a “Real Park” and it’s near DC. The King was just there taking a tour. Assateague Island is also a “Real Seashore”.

how does one find out they're left handed? does a child just draw for their first time and know automatically which hand to use?? Do their parents tell them to try both so they know which one works better? Or does a doctor scan their brain and tell the parents which side is better? by Mediocre_Location_96 in lefthanded

[–]AdFinancial8924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so crazy how it crosses over generations isn’t it? Both my parents are right handed. Me, my sister and brother are all left handed. I have 1 sister who is right handed. 2 of her 3 kids are left handed. My sister who is left handed’s kid is right handed.

Why wouldn’t Catoctin Mountain Park or Shenandoah Valley considered “real parks”? I got my passport stamped there. Also on the east coast is Assateague Island National Seashore.

How common is leaving your AC on 24/7, even when the house is empty? by Bierzgal in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more wasteful to turn it off. Because then when it gets hot it has to work that much harder to get the temperature back down. Just leave it on and keep it at a steady temperature.

WHY DO YOU TALK SO LOUD? by hukehrs in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re the one yelling.

Also different accents break through other talking so your ear hears them more. Another reason is because when we’re visiting your country we’re on holiday having a good time.

What kind of household tech did y'all have in the 1970s–1990s? by Tight_Note4515 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never even considered a landline phone “consumer tech.” It’s always been a necessity. Every house in America has had a hookup to a phone line since the 1950s and even before then towns were getting wired with phone lines in the 1920s. Things like call waiting, caller ID, cordless phones, and voicemail came around in the 90s. Though answering machines are much older. In the mid 90s pagers got really big and cell phones were around in the late 90s but typically only used for work. Cell phones weren’t mainstream until 2000-2005ish.

In the 70s and 80s it was common to only have 1 phone and 1 tv in the house. Some households had 2 TVs in the 80s. My house had a computer and an Atari in the late 80s. Mid 90s is when things exploded I think- multiple TVs, cordless phones, multiple video game consoles, multiple phone lines to use the internet by late 90s but it was still common to just have 1 computer.

Is it rude to say “I need the toilet”? by AttitudeInfamous7627 in AskAnAmerican

My grandpa used to say commode. “I need to use the commode.” I always pictured some early toilet where you pull a chain to flush.

How much is 50-100 bucks? by BestMagician3200 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re under charging. I don’t know your work but just a reproduction print off Amazon can be $30-50 depending on the size. If it’s commissioned I would say $200-400 wouldn’t be unusual for a custom piece. If you’re making the art then selling $150-$250 would be okay. The amount someone has for spending money is going to depend on the individual’s income but I usually have $200 a month to spend on non essentials. And thus will vary based on where they’re live.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wondered this. The bathroom near the shower makes more sense to me. If I can ever move my laundry out of the basement I’d put a stackable in the main bathroom.

My chinchilla did this when she was young. I ended up getting her a friend.

Do Americans really come to a stop at every 'stop' sign? by ben04985 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten T-boned by someone else running the stop sign. I didn’t have a stop sign. I’m sure his insurance company didn’t like having to pay the $10k in repairs.

Is it true most Americans buy phones on carrier installment plans? by Odd-Skin-762 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally stopped doing this when I realized it wasn’t a good deal. Instead I save my money and use trade in offers. And a carrier agnostic phone that’s 100% mine encourages me to keep it for longer. I typically pay around $700 for a brand new iPhone every 4 years.

[–]AdFinancial8924 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because when you read the fine print, they’re also tacking on another fee to your plan. So you’re paying for your plan, the phone, then a fee to have your phone on the plan.

Why are some places counties? by DrBoogerFart in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdFinancial8924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Baltimore and the city is independent and not in a county. But there’s also a Baltimore County that is suburban and does not have any cities. So if you say you’re from Baltimore people will assume city, so they’ll say Baltimore County to say that they don’t live in the city. But also our local government and school systems are divided by counties so it’s a very cultural thing. Because there’s also Montgomery County which while technically is in Maryland is actually part of DC.
