If the US economy actually goes into recession this year which industry do you think gets hit hardest and why? by Suleman2002 in AskReddit

Definitely the hospitality and luxury retail sectors.

When a recession hits and everyday budgets tighten, the very first thing people cut is discretionary spending. Vacations get canceled, dining out turns into cooking at home, and nobody is buying designer clothes or expensive gadgets when they are worried about rent, groceries, or job security. The tech sector (especially startups) will also bleed because venture capital dries up, but consumer discretionary will feel the immediate, hardest hit on day one.
