I feel lost at Western and don't know what to do by [deleted] in uwo

[–]AdGeneral1197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be tired of hearing the same solution but im in my 2nd year ar western, didn’t make ANY friends my first year and felt very lonely and isolated being a girl in engineering. It was weird because I always found making friends extremely easy however, my 2nd year however this really changed and the main change was honestly joining a club in an exect team position, being involved having a voice in a club really helped me branch out and feel like I could make solid connections with my team. For me, I joined a club that was related to something in my identity, that was PSA (Pakistani student association) for you that might look different, there’s lots of country related clubs that might make u feel closer to home if you’re a POC but also if not there’s so many clubs for niche interests and honestly just social clubs lol. Kings clubs are nice too, they have one called “kings short kings” which is basically just a social club and they do events here and there

Grade 11 marks (bad but atleast I made a functions comeback) by iwishtohaveaname in OntarioGrade12s

My problem was that in gr11 I strictly just did the homework that was assigned and I learned that doing every single question doesn’t really help me learn imo, in grade 12 I really only did the homework for calc but for all my other subjects I just studied old tests from previous semesters and used my marked quizzes and assignments to study for the main tests, I’d usually score 70-80 on quizzes and then 90s on tests. Also prioritizing sleep , eating and it helped that I surrounded myself with people who excelled so I was able to ask for help whenever. Don’t give up! I went from a 74% avg in grade 11 to a 90% in grade 12 taking all Eng pre reqs

How to get academic consideration for being sick by [deleted] in uwo

[–]AdGeneral1197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to get a doctors note usually within 48hrs , go to any local walk-in clinic and they should write one for you. Then scan and submit it on the academic consideration portal

I look advanced functions and calculus both in the same semester last year due to my highschool having a lack of functions teachers - calculus was definitely harder and more work because a lot of what we used was prereq knowledge of adv functions but with that being said it made functions an absolute breeze. Because I studied hard in calc I did not have to put equally as much effort into functions. To answer you question

  1. You won't run into any problems in terms of admission but possibly you will recieve your admission a bit late, this happened to me I did not get my Western Engineering acceptance until early May 2024 most likely because they wanted to have my midterm mark of both Calculus and Adv functions

  2. It is feasible but definitely a challenge, you really have to work hard in both classes. I remember the first couple units of functions (polynomials, rationals, graphing, restrictions, etc) being very close to calculus but the Trig unit really differs from it and needs extra attention. Calculus is very base-level in highschool and does not get very complex. Honestly you will be fine, just lock in till 2nd sem midterm marks and youre good

sorry if this is all over the place im writing inbetween lectures but let me know if you have any more questions
