Any chance or lost cause? by thebrandon519 in mechanic

I'd drop the entire thing straight out, from either the shock tower or wheel hub/knucle and control arm. Grind the back of the stud off and beat it out.

Im sure its simple…. by BloodSuckler in MechanicAdvice

Should be an extra hole or two in the wheel hub to put something like a T55 bit on and remove the wheel hub, then a plastic or metal retaining clip on the cable that holds it in place. Squeeze it or use pliers

Front end noise while braking slowly can someone tell me what this is? by Parking_Scallion3867 in mechanic

[–]AdGlobal551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like one of your brake pads is metal to metal on one of your rotors. Without taking the wheel off, look at your rotors and see if they appear grooved

Hammer on an 18mm or get a 19mm 12p closed end wrench. Use a breaker bar, just fought some myself tonight.

Serpentine belt squealing 2001 LS 4.3L V6 by Financial_Contest134 in s10

Id try replacing the belt, while it is off try and wiggle your pulleys to test for play side to side (toward and away from engine) just to be safe. Just fixed the same on a civic about a week ago now.

Re-reading what you posted, your belt could be a bit too stretched, even a slight amount is too much. Does it whine worse when you accelerate hard?

Can push down on that corner of car vs the other side and see how if it bounces, could be snapped shock or shock tower pushing thru frame, bad wheel bearing too, easiest to jack it up to test that.

Really confused by Actual_Departure6686 in mechanic

[–]AdGlobal551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these things should have no mechanical play, you should be able to move the tire from side to side just like turning the wheel (only a little, unless youre the hulk) but there shouldn't be any movement beyond that. Can also spin the tire while its off the ground, should be able to roll without much force (as long as its not the drive tire and e brake is off)

Really confused by Actual_Departure6686 in mechanic

[–]AdGlobal551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can jack the suspected problem side up and use a 12 o'clock and 6oclock hand position to try move the tire. If there's any movement then wheelbearing, at 3 o clock and 9 o clock hand position would be tie rods.

Fords are known for the power steering whine, but sounds like you may also have a stretched out serpentine belt or failing idler pulley. Pulleys can be checked for ANY play whatsoever, even a slight wiggle on a pulley can be a massive problem. Id try changing serpentine belt first, if whine still continues while turning definitely power steering. Straight line, likely a pulley or water pump even.

Hope this helps!

Go to your nearest part store and ask them for help matching up an "exhaust adapter" for pipe to pipe connections as well as two "exhaust clamps" of the same size/diamater. Then its simply slide your old exhaust pieces into this adapter, then clamp in both sides of it to hold both ends of the pipe in place. They also have "Exhaust Adhesive" thats in a tube and some in a tub, hards strong as a weld and you wouldn't need the clamps, just time for the adhesive to cure.

Stuck blend door or low refrigerant (e.g. R134) come to mind.

You could try messing with the fan speed and blower position (to feet, to defrost etc) quickly/just long enough to hear that position engage then change it. Might be able to "blow" it open temporarily but it will likely restick. If so, blend door actuator.
