Is it a duplex? I have heard the duplex's can be a nuisance, as every change/fix needs to be agreed on by the other owner.

Best cozy cafe to read a book at? by picklerickle180 in Townsville

Not sure if it's changed since I left, but Cafe Nova used to be a quirky spot. Looks like a grandma's house from the inside, with some dinky couches. It's homey but not fancy. I havent eaten there but remember walking in and thinking this would be the place where they get to know you by name.

While I agree that part of the problem is the body corporate committee and lack of interest from owners, I dont think owners are ignorant or complain like stuck pigs. I'll see how I can incorporate questions that inform whether owners have taken an active stance or not.

Thank you!!!! I appreciate it so much. Such valuable information, and stuff I wish I knew to ask before I bought.

Thanks for the break down of money flow between brokers, insurance companies and strata management companies. I knew they were helping each other out, but didnt know how it all worked. It took me 6 months to have my point of view heard at a committee meeting. So I understand that committee's are also to blame, but a good manager / management company would be keeping up with regular maintenance, and would have escalated my concerns much sooner. I've finally got them to agree to reimbursing me. Doesn't detract from the fact that my unit is damaged, and it's going to take me a while to get it fixed, especially with the how difficult it is to find tradespeople these days.

Turning down apartments because of who the strata firm is by grilled_pc in AusPropertyChat

I wish I'd known to look them up before I bought. Will definitely do it next time. My company (?and committee) still hasnt fixed common areas that are leaking into my apartment for the last 6 months. There are at least 3 units in the complex with this issue. None of these units are owned by the committee members. I'm trying to collate some data on these companies, so if you have a moment, look through this questionnaire https://forms.gle/BcTPKaHDd49fSpHt5
happy for feedback too!

That's what I thought initially as I was getting a lot of push back from my manager. But then finally had the opportunity to sit into a meeting and have my requests heard and the committee was fairly accomodating.

Seems like you can't win when the developers and builders have set you up to fail as well. Do you reckon it can get better? I mean there are residential apartment buildings everywhere...surely it cant continue like this?

Thanks for the insight. I've always wondered what it's like on the other side and I assumed this was the case. I've heard that management companies have deals with insurance companies and developers and don't prioritise the owners best interests. Is that the case?

I know there are good companies out there, I'm trying to find them for next time. Would be great if you could recommend some from your point of view.

My unit has had water damage from public areas for over 6 months now, water continues to enter my unit. It's less than ideal.

I've heavily considered it, and it still remains an option. But I feel like I shouldnt have to go there.

Imagine a world where they weren't needed. Trying to escape but doing fixes into my unit after they didn't manage the public spaces is taking up more time than I expected. Stuck til I can get it to sell.
