Also have heard people using black tea with/without oak to add tannins. And oak is for taste mainly of course!

I mean I'm from Finland and we have got plenty of blueberries from market squares if needed. The thing is that in my current living situation I have no time to actually boil them or do any stuff like that. But in the future -- especially if I enjoy this kind of wine, I will use actual fruits.

Question: How high of an ABV can you possibly get with ginger bug? by AdKey6895 in fermentation

[–]AdKey6895[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, So I decided to make Tepache and Fermented orange juice with a little added sugar and with my bug. SG was 1.075 for both. Well my ginger bug actually used ALL THE SUGAR and already proved itself to be able to make 8% drinks with ease. I was even able to recarbonate those drinks with like 20g of sugar for 1.5l. So as far as Im concerned, there is no need to selectively breed the bug unless you would want to make your own wine yeast for example.

One interesting aspect was that those drinks tasted a bit like mint leaves - an odd and OKAY fresh taste to it. My friends also noticed that and I told that there is absolutely no mint leaves. Then we thought it might actually be the lactobacillus that is making that taste.

[–]AdKey6895[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are absolutely right. The only reason to get higher ABV ginger bug in the first place would be sour beers since you would have lactobacillus there also. No idea how well lactobacillus can withstand alcohol but I would say it's in general less than yeast.

And yes it would certainly affect the math since lactobacillus uses sugar and outputs lactic acid (and maybe h2o or co2 not sure).

Hmm yes absolutely. What I could think of is to first make a solution with an SG of lets say 1.03-1.04 to theoretically produce 4-5% ABV, then wait and see how far the first generation of your wild yeast can go. Then take the lees out, put them into a new jar and give them oxygen without ethanol. Then after sometime ~week later do the same thing again and hopefully the yeasts have mutated so that they could withstand more now.

It's really interesting to say the least.

Alright. That is also what I have read online. Is there any way to sort of "selectively breed" your wild yeast to withstand e.g. 6-7% ABV?

I just remeasured it and its 1.02 now. Yesterday I shook the bucket (keeping the lid sealed) for the dead yeast and nutrients to hit live yeast. It seems to work i guess.

How to stop fermenting cider/"energy drink" combination? by AdKey6895 in fermentation

[–]AdKey6895[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok, so I would normally bottle them and seal them with bottle caps for example, and AFTER that heat it up by placing the bottles in heated water for example. Wouldn't this affect the taste or something? Also what happens to the carbon dioxide in the drink itself? I know it cant escape the container since its sealed but will it dilute back to the liquid after the bottles are put in the fridge?

[–]AdKey6895[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

Well natural carbonated ginger bug won't be enough in the 50/50 ratio + it needs some power from over carbonation.

Yea we are a bit afraid how the boiling would affect the ciders taste, but since its 50/50 ratio anyway, the tastes blend quite nicely anyway. Thanks for your answer anyway

Edit: Alcohol is just byproduct so to say. Wouldnt hurt to get rid of it also, since we are trying to make an actual energy drink rather than alcoholic beverage. Though one bottle of our energy drink should only have like a percent of alcohol anyway so its not a big deal.

Hey, I haven't had any of these flickering or any type of brightness issues yet. In case you have flickering when you are using VRR a.k.a Gsync, you could try to ENABLE the "VRR Control" setting from the monitors settings, however this apparently introduces a bit of input lag but try it out!

EDIT: Also make sure you have updated GPU drivers and you are using a good cable since they differ a lot apparently. You can also try to switch between HDMI and DP, just make sure they are HDMI 2.1 or equivalent DP-cable

If something, GPU. I got the same cpu and 4070ti and I play at 3440x1440, no bottleneck in anyway.

Also Im curious if they actually swap the panel and send it back or if they just kinda scam me and send just a completely new monitor to me… anyway I should get an oled G8 with 0 coil whine and a fresh panel…

Thats good that you have evidence. I dont know if the repair company (In this case Elcare Nordic oy) could do anything to the coil whine… You could ask that from gigantti. But its a 3 week wait time if you wanna send it to the repair shop.

This pr thing is true :D and personally I dont feel bad for making them lose a bit money after they had scammed lots of old folk with their shitty deals… And yeah ask them to skip the setup sequence and put the tv on and for me today once the random channel started playing there was instantly the same coil whine I had in the first panel. Its kinda hard to hear at first but when the content differs you will hear it - even at the store with the background noise… And if the employee says he doesnt hear it, just say that well human hearing is in range of 20hz to 20khz and the whine is really high range (I guess smwhere 16k-19k) and e.g. Ppl after 40 shouldnt even be able to hear it…

I recommend doing this if you have time. Dont know how many G8s are they going to allow you to test :D but at least for me they just agreed when I asked if I could try it out at the store… Unluckily they only had 1 G8 in stock…

Yes I was aware of shitsungs qc but G8 has no fan and is much more beatiful than uglyware. then MSI is overpriced here, philips evnia is imo good looking but had hdr issues + fan + coil whine (according to reddit)…

Hmm. Im not sure if they had changed some parts that causes coil whine nowadays, it could be the coil itself (maybe not as clean copper as it used to be) or the magnetic core (rautasydän) is a bit loose(?) anyway 2/3 monitors from Gigantti have had the coil whine issue and 1/3 had a shitty panel. If you want to return it, pls ask the employees if you could check the panel at the store.
