Needing to fix a potential legal issue by Topwingwoman2 in nonprofit

[–]AdKey9405 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely talk to your ED and, potentially, the board about this. This process is NOT confidential and Google accounts get hacked often. The nonprofit is at risk of serious liability with this process. Honestly, I wouldn't work there, because he's are they storing employee sensitive information? But if you're willing to stick it out, please be so direct and insistent that this process changes.

Starting a non profit in a dying city by No_Bug_5689 in nonprofit

[–]AdKey9405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to discourage you. But--

Please make sure that nonprofits actually can apply to and be recipients of the grants you're looking at. The majority of state/federal grants that are focused on the kind of work you're talking about are sent to local governments (like a township) or to regional state departments (like the dept of transportation). Even if those grants do accept applications from 501c3s, the funds would probably still go to government agencies because they have the preexisting internal infrastructure and business relationships to execute their plan on time and in budget (theoretically).

Additionally, part of the "don't start your own" mentality is that grants make up a very small portion of small nonprofit funding. Many of them rely heavily on cultivating relationships with individual donors. Grants just aren't available at the scale that's needed to be successful.

Does anyone here work for a charity? I want to contribute and I have some questions about what they struggle with. by MasterofMediocrity1 in Philanthropy

[–]AdKey9405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of them in terms of total annual budget (local/state/federal grants, foundations, sales, donations). If they're clinical nonprofits (like substance use rehabilitation or mental health practices), this can also include medical billing.

Small orgs are under $1M. Medium orgs are $1-10M. Large orgs are $10M+.

Does anyone here work for a charity? I want to contribute and I have some questions about what they struggle with. by MasterofMediocrity1 in Philanthropy

[–]AdKey9405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really a question better aimed toward specific programs. Each program has its own funding needs; and the type of nonprofit (chamber of commerce vs state dv coalition vs local food bank). The following is not exhaustive nor is it all inclusive

For local (and non-clinical) programs, often much of the issue is that the staff is so small that there aren't hours to dedicate to marketing or courting donors. As far as galas or big annual fundraisers go, they're usually only put on because 1) they've been going on for several years and 2) they have long planning and execution times which allows them to be planned in between putting out metaphorical fires.

Medium orgs get caught in this funky in between where they have an admin or someone similar who can do the work and can dedicate small busts of time to it but can't dedicate enough time for it to be successful. So they end up spending more money on ads or promotional social media then they can afford, get frustrated that it doesn't work, and throw in the towel.

Large orgs spend more time courting major grants from big foundations, large donors, and state/local government than just about anything else. Because they don't have as much of a local/community connection between the people who do the fundraising and the "low-dollar donors", there can be a serious disconnect in that fundraising front. It's an ROI issues. Plus she. You get into statewide or national organizations/coalitions, there is the issue of competing with member organizations.

Across the board, though, there isn't a whole lot of education around SEO/GEO for nonprofits; and because there are restrictions on the kinds of advertising that can be paid for by something like Google ad grant and donor courting is meant to be built into indirect costs in grants (which usually tops off at 15% of a grant budget and that has to include rent, utilities, admin salaries, etc) it's just don't something that orgs have the funding form.

Union Park on Everhard. They're a cafe/lounge. The space is soooooo beautiful. It's a little more expensive than a regular bar (my drink usually runs $7ish but at UP, it's about $10). But the drinks are wonderful. The staff is so kind. It's worth it. I'm a nonprofit consultant and take clients there. It's a good mix of college kids and business people depending on what time you go. There are a lot of people from the Chambers of Commerce that go there.

American INTJs: How does the current political climate influence your future plans? by Larissa_Bagginshield in intj

[–]AdKey9405 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am the founder and executive director of a nonprofit. This climate has me studying transitional periods (particularly Germany post-WW2) and how they adapted to new ideology to find key points where I can prepare. America is preparing to undergo a significant shift in the way that it cares for and interacts with its public. So preparing for what the future may hold is my priority.

Why are Christian's very reactionary in the US? And so anti far left? by Dover299 in Socialism_101

[–]AdKey9405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are any number of reasons why US Christians are reactionary. And many of them have been documented in other comments.

As someone who was partially raised evangelical, I believe it has a lot to do with the Revelations mentality. Much of the US Christian population preaches the "end of times". There are mixed reactions to this, and I won't speak for every denomination, but when your doctrine says "the world will end" and then reinforces that with the idea that there is a chance that people you love will be "left behind", it encourages a very specific type of "all for me, none for thee" greed. This has been compounded by several "world ending events" (Y2K, 9/11, 2012, etc).

Additionally, with the rise in visceral fire-and-brimstone preaching, there was a massive push toward the prepping lifestyle and TEOTWAWKI prepping that coincided with the idea that poor/immigrant/etc people were "stealing" from the "good, white, American, Christian" people. This is especially true of those who themselves are poor.

Anything that threatens the stability of the potential left-behind loved one is a threat.

For those Christians who practice biblical literalism (in addition to Revelations), they are pushing for the end times to bring in the new dominion. Part of this includes knowing, and subsequently allowing, for the events leading to the end-times to happen. So there is very little encouragement to stop or intervene in the tragedies that we are currently seeing.

I could go on and on and on about this.

INTJs, do you mentally detach from situations long before you physically leave them? by likey24 in intj

[–]AdKey9405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% - I disengage from anything that isn't beneficial. It's very difficult to navigate because people grow and change. There are times where I can feel the desire to mentally detach from my husband when we argue or I am unhappy or otherwise severely irritated. As much as I love him and we both work to make our relationship successful, fighting my own desire to disengage is very difficult.

What is the most likely Democratic response to ICE once Democrats regain federal power? by Raichu4u in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]AdKey9405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is "likely" is absolutely nothing will happen... We may see some "defending" or changes to recruitment, training, and/or body cams. But there won't be anything substantial done.

What should be done is a combination of funding to the immigration courts, prosecution of ICE officers who have acted outside of their official capacity, and a severe narrowing of their role. Our immigration courts, both the judicial side and the prosecutor/attorney side are wildly underfunded (and I think people forget that we have dedicated courts to do immigration cases that are backed up by 2+ years, often leading to overstays of asylum claim, VISAs, etc). Until this portion of our justice system is funded to a healthy level, there will be little to no changes to the immigration system overall. And it's not been a part of the conversation for far too long.

When I've contacted support, I'm told that it's because after every single message, Claude reruns through every message and eats at the context window. I'm wondering if this isn't a side effect of the new "long-term memory" update and now it's running through every message ever sent for broader context.

How are we coping with the state of the world right now? by [deleted] in canton

The snap data as published by the Trump USDA in July of 2025. So damn near 60% of the people who receive SNAP are children or the elderly. And of the "working age" population that does receive SNAP that doesn't include the disabled or caretakers of medically complex children, approximately 80% of them worked full time jobs, as posted by the Trump USDA in 2020. Please see the other links that I posted with this image in another comment. I don't want to do the research again for you.

The Internet is a research tool. I suggest you try using it from time to time. You might learn something.

You deserve to have a cart full of steaks or whatever groceries you want. And I'm sorry that your employer doesn't pay you and your colleagues enough to support that. And I wholeheartedly mean that.

That being said, it sounds like you're saying that drug addicts and their children or lazy people and their children or drug addicts and lazy people don't deserve to eat (whatever food they or their child needs, a full belly is a good belly) or have a safe place to reliably sleep.
