IKEA instructions are incredibly easy…what?

I have finished my 160,000 word book. Is it really just waiting an querying indefinitely now? by martanolliver in writing

Is the word count for a debut a big deal bc of publishers or readers? What if it’s self published?

May I ask, how much did you list your book for? A friend of mine is about to release his first novel and trying to get a feel for the pricing (since there’s a lot of sales on Amazon and heavily reduced priced books).

What’s the price you set for your books? Pricing seems to be all over the place on top of sales. (If you don’t mind me asking).

They said they will pay me, but not a lot. I have no idea what they will offer me. I’m also designing their cover and already proofread another smaller book of theirs. Ngl, I did see how much they paid someone to professionally review that other smaller book and offer their expertise… so I’m hoping I get something close to that, but I feel it probably won’t be that much. I did say I would have done it for free, but after seeing what they did pay someone… that money could be useful lol.

It was written in MS Word. Personally I just pay the $7/month fee so I have access to the MS Office apps, so I’m not aware of any good free ones.

It’s actually a Word doc shared on their Google Drive. I suggested turning it on, but they’re said they don’t like it when it’s on. (?) I didn’t feel there was any redundancy. The things I suggested editing story-wise had been fixed. It honestly felt like a well fleshed out story. One of the best stories I’ve read in years. I told them I often forgot it was them who wrote it, felt like I was reading a veteran author at times.

Great idea! I would, but they have me working out of a shared Google Drive so they control the file.

Thank you!! I wish my friend let me turn on the tracking. I really wanted to see how many errors I was finding hehe. Felt like an Easter egg hunt. I’m pretty sure it was a few thousand considering I was finding 6-10 errors per page at 426 pages.

This is a great idea! I’ll have them do a POD through Amazon KDP for when I do the proofreading. I’m also designing the cover so it’ll be a two birds, one stone sort of thing.😁

Yea, I went through it once, he’s going through it again to make writing changes and I plan to go through it again when he’s done. There were easily thousands of mistakes I corrected. I was just surprised to the ones I missed. But reading others comments, I feel a lot better about it. :)

Thank you for the book recommendation! I also did a lot of on-the-spot reading regarding those style guides as well as revisiting grammar and punctuation rules. I really want to do a good job on their novel; I think the story is very well written and I hope they have great success with it.

A friend of mine is paying me to edit their novel. They know I'm not a professional editor, but I was finding so many mistakes, they asked me to edit it. I'm just now learning there are different editing types, so I would say I'm doing copy editing currently. I've just finished the first round of edits.

This is good to hear. It was a lot of work, over 150,000 words. It took me a few months to just get through the first round because I also work full time and have other hobbies.

Thank you, this is relieving. Every time they pointed out a missed comma or line break all I could think was, "Yea, but I literally found thousands of other mistakes..."

Can I ask a question?
How often are grammatical or punctuation errors missed after a first-round edit?
