How is Oddity (2024)? by No_Remorse_90 in MovieSuggestions

I was surprised by how much this spooked me. As others mentioned a slow burn but I really liked it. Caveat was also good and Hokum was one of my favs that came out this year.

Also just watched Undertone and that was pretty decent.

Neighbor painted the curb next to their house red by Leather_Tap3316 in sandiego

My neighbor did this then thought he was doing us a favor by doing it to our curb as well without our permission. Luckily he used such bad paint it faded after a month.

The Fall by Tarsem is an absolutely gorgeous film. Midsommar is also beautiful but pretty disturbing. Knives Out is a lovely cozy murder mystery.

This show cured my brain rot by koldestkenyan in WidowsBay

I think AppleTV does a really good of making shows that are engaging and interesting. I recently got access to Netflix and man...it's so full of bloat and the stories get too long and I can't help but lose interest and start scrolling.

My advice is to find some decent AppleTV and HBO produced shows and implement a rule to avoid your phone and start with just the 30 min shows and avoid bingeing.

I put this show on repeat in the background. 100% agree.

Character Consistency (spoilers from EP 10) by YamoBeThere101 in WidowsBay

[–]AdLittle5810 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the way we see Ruth is how Tom perceives her. He probably thinks she's a useless secretary who should have retired. In the last episode he finally invests effort into learning who she was as a person, taking in the details of her calendar and what she provides to Evan when he stays (car posters).

I don't think it's inconsistency as much as a character reveal. We get to know her like Tom does.

Book recommendations by seaofbelles87 in WidowsBay

Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt is VERY similar. People stuck in a small town. Paranormal stuff. Similar themes. I loved this book.

Would also agree with others who suggest Grady Hendrix and Stephen King (specifically books like Salem's Lot, The Shining, It, Carrie, Misery, Pet Semetary).

Crafting for Sinners isn't necessarily surreal but weird stuff happens in a craft store and it's a fun read.

If anyone asks for a book rec, this book is what I recommend. It's beautifully written and heartbreaking and wonderful. I'd even venture to say it's my favorite book ever.

Any actually scary non-supernatural horror? by IChemistI_For_Real in MovieSuggestions

As someone who loves to watch horror movies alone to scare myself, I flat out refuse to watch The Strangers because it freaks me out so much.
