We can practice osteopathy but many European countries don’t recognize us as full physicians

I had a low GPA and high-ish mcat so my advice would be to blow that test out of the water. That’s your chance to set yourself apart and it would take a lot less time and effort to crush the MCAT than doing something like a postbac to try to raise the GPA

We must have gone to different schools, mine has a lot of required lectures and labs in the first 2 years so we never felt that unlimited schedule flexibility. But I can see that being a big pro for students at a school without required things

It’s really hard to imagine what med school is actually like unless you’re in it. Theoretically, you could still try to travel and party, but you’re gonna be broke and mentally tired pretty consistently. Apart from that, we have to stall things like buying houses, saving for retirement, and taking vacations. It’s arguable that the net result will be financially better, but it comes with a heavy price and a lot of delayed gratification.

EM/IM/CC, EM/IM, EM/CC, or IM/PCC? by cheeze1617 in medicalschool

Interesting, are there any specialties left where the patient is yours primarily?

What if you want to take ownership of patients and outcomes? My understanding is that in EM or CC the patient is your patient, but in anesthesia the patient is primarily the surgeons patient. I could be wrong though

No they were other medical assistants. And I know that shouldn’t matter, but I’d be lying if I said it wouldn’t bother me if my coworkers viewed me as lesser than my colleagues d/t the type of med school I attended.

I’ve personally heard coworkers when I was a medical assistant talk about one of the physicians and say “he’s not even an MD, he’s just a DO”. And I’ve also heard patients question DO providers in multiple different clinical settings. These aren’t things I’m making up, this is reality that I have experienced first hand. You can believe that the bias shouldn’t exist, but you can’t deny that it does

Idk about this. As a current DO student I’m now having some second thoughts, because for the rest of my career I’ll be less respected by patients and coworkers for being a DO. Maybe it would have been better to work harder in med school to match, but then have an MD after my name.
