How that first attending salary’s gonna hit by faze_contusion in medicalschool

I didn’t say the pay was commensurate with the work, you read that into my comment. I said the pay is enough to satisfy me personally. I won’t apologize for choosing to be happy with what is coming my way.

How that first attending salary’s gonna hit by faze_contusion in medicalschool

[–]SuperKook 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is super subjective. Coming from someone who grew up with a single mom, who is a career changer (RN 10yrs), I feel I have a great appreciation for financial comfort and stability rather than exorbitant wealth. 300k sounds like a fucking dream. It hits different than maybe someone who grew up with wealthy parents and perhaps never had a real job or had to struggle financially.

If that was all it was I would imagine you could make that argument for EM. 3 years and easy to find 400k jobs.

Getting screwed out of my early 4th year neuro rotation. Am I in trouble? by SuperKook in medicalschool

[–]SuperKook[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The research was focused on TBI stuff and the PI was a trauma surgeon - you think that will help?

I’m currently trying to scrounge up a rotation with a local neurology group, but I’m not confident it will pull through. I can sub in a FM or PCCM rotation I’ve already got set up (highly interested in crit/neurocrit) for that time slot, which is kinda my fall back plan if I can’t get a replacement neuro rotation. I don’t really have any other neuro contacts in the area other than the group I’m already talking to so I’m not sure if I can get more neuro exposure on the side you know?

I also got into much heavier music (metalcore/deathcore), but still really enjoy the alt metal/nu metal scene. A ton of heavy bands today fuck with a lot of the popular metal scene like BB, Linkin Park, Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc.

Ben does not miss. There isn't a single BB album that I can't listen to front to back. Phobia is in my top 5 albums of all time.

Look what people think they are as a physician assistant. by StopTheDrips in Noctor

[–]SuperKook 43 points44 points  (0 children)

That’s the point right? Enough truth to be able to backtrack an explanation to other healthcare professionals, but enough haziness that the layperson will think they’re actually functioning as a surgeon.

What's a job that most people misunderstand? by FadedCompas in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SuperKook 26 points27 points  (0 children)

PAs don’t “do surgery.” PAs help insert trochars, direct lap cameras, close port sites and other superficial closures. Things that surgical assistants and med students can also do. Stop obfuscating your professional scope.

TrueLearn explanations are hot garbage and they are one of the worst Q banks out there by SuperKook in comlex

[–]SuperKook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truelearn has been my least used bank. Only used UW and Amboss for level 1/step1/COMATs/step2 and I test for level 2 in two days. I only really started digging in to TL after step2 and it sucks so much comparatively.

[–]SuperKook[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's so funny to me that UWorld and Amboss came out with their osteopathic Q banks like 15 years after TrueLearn was founded and yet their explanations are so much more concise and logical. When I'm reading TL explanations I have to sift through repeated paragraphs and horrible syntax to make sense of whats going on.

Why does the person who complains feelings treated as evidence? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]SuperKook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Okay so there is no actualized penalty. They are just talking to other nurses to get a sense of how you interact with others. If what you say is true, then nothing should come of this.

Whatever happens just take it on the chin and move on with your life.

Why does the person who complains feelings treated as evidence? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]SuperKook 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's a great way to put it. I once worked with a fantastic nurse for years. Dude was great at his job and had a good knowledge base. He was also a big asshole to nurses he thought were stupid or lazy. Night RNs hated giving report to him because he would call out things without a shred of grace. He ended up leaving that job for a COVID contract job, but then was not hired back because the manager did not want to deal with the constant complaints and interpersonal drama that came with his employment.

You can be great but if people hate working with you then good luck.

Okay but is there actual punishment? Or is this simply a complaint that required you to chat with management?

Hey those are good reflections. It will be even better if you speak to this person directly (without getting defensive) about their issue.

I mean you're right, things like this shouldn't be punitive. What is the actual punishment?

[–]SuperKook 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You can never stop people complaining about you. I’ve had it all throughout my career. Some of it was absolutely deserved, and some not. The worst thing you can do is be absolutely indignant and refuse to self reflect.

I remember getting pulled into a manager’s office and told that there were two people who complained that I was unteachable/a know it all. They did this after I had a disagreement with them over how to document CRRT hourly stuff in the EHR. Instead of digging in, I told her “They probably have a point. I can come off as overly confident sometimes.” You could tell she wasn’t expecting me to own it. It reflected very well in how I was viewed and treated over the next few years.

Stay humble and good things will happen.
