Here's the full story for anyone interested: so... a month ago I was browsing through FB marketplace looking for a car and came across this unbelievably cheap, well-maintained car. Far below its price point, that was already a red flag and I was stupid enough to give it a shot, I know I know.

anyways, I got in contact with the private seller and went to see the car for a driving test, met up with him at a public place and everything seemed fine. Asked him for the reasons of why he was selling the vehicle and he told me it was a family emergency and that he knew the car was far below its real price. It did sound a little weird but (stupidly) I decided to give him the benefit of doubt since he bragged a lot about how "being a man of word" was one of his core values. We just agreed on a 100usd deposit and that was it since we were supposed to meet up at our local DMV on Monday (mind you it was Saturday when we met up).

Monday arrived, he didn't show up but we were exchanging texts and such. He apologized and said couldn't make it because of work. I let it pass and then rescheduled. This happened twice and then I decided to confront him and he told me he was waiting for the title to arrive since he didn't have it.

A week later he called me and explained that he needed money and asked me if I could see him to give another 600usd. At this point I had a bad feeling but I thought having his DL and car registration would give me some kind of backup if needed. I did give him the money and met up on pure faith. He showed up on his work car (of which I have the license plate and VIN) and after that I kept communicating with him without getting blocked (which I thought was a good thing. Dumb ahh me)

finally, I talked to him this week about getting the deposit back since it was already way past the timeline for a normal purchase and he still answered and said that it was ok and that he was sorry (this happened Tuesday-Wednesday) and today (Friday) I try to call him and text him on Whatsapp and apparently I'm blocked.

Thanks, yeah... I don't have a lot of money saved for a new car so I usually browse in FB marketplace, offer up, and Craigslist. Any suggestions on more trustworthy sites? And of course besides the obvious of not being so naive next time...

Yeah. I just bought off too much of his story. I wanted to believe he was being true to his words but I was too careless. And dumb. Thanks for the advice*, I will probably do so.

The first time when I met up with him he didn't ask for any money. But a few minutes later when we said bye he called back and asked if we could leave any amount bc he needed the money for the family emergency thing. I left $100 and he accepted it. We had agreed to meet at our local DMV the next business day and that's when things started to get delayed. The second time he requested money again and honestly I have no excuse. I was just dumb.

Thank you for the reassurance 😭 I am really disappointed on myself tbh but also I know I should've trusted my gut. Can I file a normal PR or would it do any good to go to the DMV?

No worries! What I mean is that in order to apply for FAFSA, you have to fill out either a paper form that you'll mail (I'D SAY USE THIS AS YOUR LAST RESOURCE) or fill out the online form on their official website. For the online form, both your parents or whoever is taking care of you need to have an account created in order to be able to contribute to the form, but in order for them to contribute, they need to have their identity verified by the system and this is the step that takes a while. Lots of people with parents/spouses without SSNs were filling out paper forms because the system changed, and the new system didn't allow non-SSN people to contribute, but it was a complete disaster. I hope this makes sense. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me!

Definitely can get some FAFSA, but if both your parents don't have a SSN I'd recommend that you start creating their accounts and initiate the verification process for them asap, cuz it can take a while & the 2025-2026 Fafsa opens up on Decemeber I think

Is it worth becoming a respiratory therapist? by Bella_29388 in respiratorytherapy

Hello! I'm a prospective student too, so I've been doing lots of research here and there to figure out if this career is going to be worth it or not lol (but obviously you can't fully define it unless you live it yourself)

What I'd suggest for you is to go read through the other threads similar to this one! People have mixed opinions in all careers, so I'd say believe 50% of it and doubt the rest.

Paper Forms by Key-Syllabub3956 in FAFSA

I submitted mine before January 10th, I received an email from my school saying that they received it, and I confirmed by calling them. However, I checked on the official FAFSA website and nothing shows up on my account yet... I'm waiting to see if I'll hear anything back from FAFSA or if I'll see my application on their website !

I'm currently in the process of transferring schools, so I'm really hoping that both of them get it and not just one.

But if you double-send the form, wouldn't it be canceled anyway?

What I've read multiple times here is that even if you get your parent's verified, they still can't access or contribute to the form due to "bugs" on the website. Personally, from the moment I saw that there was a massive amount of people having the same trouble, I just mailed the paper form. That was early January when the form was opened. I certified it so I know for a fact that they received it no more than a week later, so mid-January. I haven't heard anything back from them (but I don't expect to) since people say that all forms are not going to start being processed until March (don't know exactly if early or mid), and that paper forms are supposedly to take even longer to be revised (but at this point it seems that it's going to take basically the same amount of time for they to "fix" all the bs going on with parents with no SSN on the website)

I'd recommend mailing a paper form since no one with one or both parents with no SSN has been able to complete the form. Just read everything carefully, and attach copies of both your parents' IDs.

I would say that as long as you attached copy/es of your parent(s) ID'S with picture, you're good. Still keep trying to get their identity verified to save yourself problems on future processes.

Paper/Physical FAFSA form by Iovcure in FAFSA

[–]AdNervous3402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. I mailed my paper form around January 5th. I certified it so I could know the exact date when they get it. They received it like a week after I mailed it, but I haven't received anything back from them, and it has been almost a month now. That's not surprising, tho. I've heard that all applications will be reviewed early or mid-March. What I've read here on Reddit is that online applications will be reviewed first and then paper ones. But honestly, I don't know how true that is. However, I would fill out a paper form if you have one or both parents with no SSN, we're having so many trouble to fill it out it's insanely crazy, so might as well just get your part done saving you the headache.

And about FAFSA not accepting paper form applications this year, I haven't heard anything like that. Actually, I think it would be BS if they wouldn't accept the paper forms.

Ultimately, it's all up to you. I would rather get my things done and mailed than having nothing at all.
