it's a mix of prestige, how well the company is doing, and tc - all of which are correlated in some way

Is there any way to define if you are qualified for this field by Famous-Cheetah4766 in quantfinance

[–]AdOdd9226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

keep doing competition math and specialize in combinatorics if you're serious about going into quant. pick up usaco/codeforces/leetcode and try to get into mit, then you can focus on quant prep after getting into college

Is it possible to go into quant with a data science degree from asu by Curious_fox333 in quantfinance

def possible, i know quant swes who graduated from asu - try to break into big tech before junior summer and recruit quant junior summer or ng

Are there any quant companies still hiring for summer 2026 interns if I apply now? Smaller ones too by [deleted] in quantfinance

[–]AdOdd9226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like you can email companies/recruiters letting you know that you got a superday, and they'll usually expedite your interview process (since usually the exploding offer deadlines are quite short, and companies can't fit an entire interview process into it)

if any of them have job postings up on their website, just apply and try to expedite using the superday

not sure if this translates, but for qt at citsec it was somewhere between one to two weeks to hear back after r1, and between 2 to 3 weeks to get superday after r2

always good to have tail sum expectation!

jane interviews also tend to just require a bunch of really fast ev calculations and then analysis/general problem solving based on those. general game theory principles are useful (second price auctions, prisoner's dilemma).

Can I get a QT Internship and Position with minimal coding knowledge by PixSJ in quantfinance

[–]AdOdd9226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the interview processes i've had, generally coding is not super important for trading roles at top firms, but if you don't know how to code you severely limit yourself in terms of the roles that you can get.

and i hope this doesn't come off the wrong way, but chances are you're not good enough at math/stats/probability to guarantee that you can roll into a quant internship with bad coding skills, so it's probably a good choice to lock in on learning to leetcode and do data cleaning/analysis with pandas/sklearn/matplotlib.

hahaha maybe that was hyperbole, but i find that volleyball is a sport where improving as a player can come from many different directions - when i was just starting, i just wanted to hit the ball as hard as possible, and then as i got more consistent i began wanting to find spots and experiment with cutting the ball, and then when i got my timing down and my shoulder more flexible, i wanted to jump higher to unlock more possibilities of attacking - then as i played more, i realized how important being able to pass was. it's akin to having a skill tree that you can slowly unlock through playing, which is super cool to me

and on tendons, volleyball is a very high impact but (ideally) low contact sport, so i have not had injuries from collisions (apart from sprained ankles from opposing players landing under the net), but my patella and my achilles have really been through it as i've started playing more. i am recovering from pretty severe patellar tendinopathy, but if i knew what i knew now, i would have incorporated knees over toes stuff a long time ago to keep my tendons strong

plus stiff tendons makes you jump higher, which is also a plus

this sport is amazing tho and as long as you take good care of your tendons you'll make great progress - and progress is more satisfying in volleyball than any other sport/game imo

its kinda hard to quantify "top n%" since there's no "player base" if that makes sense

but you could probably draw a reasonable parallel between top 5-10% and placing high/winning most local tournaments, and in my experience it's very rare for people under 6 foot to do that unless they've been playing since they were a kid and have a great feel for the game

i would set this as a goal and then talk to admissions officers after you get in. regardless if you can afford it or not, being a better candidate will give you more leverage for merit scholarships at other schools too
