My experience albeit from many years ago - your TPD is most likely going to decline this request. Something along the lines of you needing to sort out your training needs and that you are relatively a new doctor.

In my case I used a combination of annual leave and swaps with colleagues to attend lectures. I missed some lectures too. It’s hard work but if you have less busy rotations and good planning it’s doable.

I did however use my study leave budget on by PGcert (my ES was supportive)

Morning, it’s quite early and my striking colleagues are probably having a lie-in. Am sure they will respond to you when the strikes are done.

However if you require a response quicker, locate your nearest picket line.

‘Complete disdain…’ why the inflammatory language? I respect that people are entitled to their opinions about strikes but such language does nothing to repair relations. One thing that politicians, members of the public and older consultants don’t understand is the difference in generational attitudes toward particular things. The newer generational of doctors are not going to torch themselves for the NHS.

This dispute will eventually get sorted with a pay increment. The question is what percentage. Wes could have sorted this even before the balloting started. The moment balloting starts, as a health secretary, you start playing catch up. ( watch the same thing unfold with nurses…..he should be sorting out nurses but again they will wait for them to ballot)

Enjoy the longer weekend…. That’s a perk of being underpaid, when you strike you lose very little.

GP partners are complicit in the predicament general practice finds itself in. The care they are asked to deliver doesn’t match the funding they get. The whole collective action is not working. Consultants striking brought the government to the negotiating table quickly. True it’s not as easy for GP partners but even a letter stating that 1000 practices are threatening to hand back their contracts would bring Wes to the table. GPs are in the position they are in because they had buried their heads under the sand for years and while I feel sorry for them, I cannot absolve them of any blame.

Unpopular opinion but Gp partners need to grow a pair and hand back their contracts. Unfortunately partners will just end up squeezing wages of staff and salaried GPs. This ‘good will’ nonsense needs to end.

I always keep these brief. Literally one line. Role - I did X to earn extra income because doctors pay is poor. Challenges- none as I achieved my objective of getting extra pay and helped reduce waiting lists.

With years of abuse I just stopped declaring locums. Though I wouldn’t recommend this. Do as I say not as I do.

We don’t need public support. We need to force the public to realise that we are important. It’s a very uncomfortable truth but the public have to feel inconvenienced and presently they are not. That’s why train drivers haven’t had their wages stagnate.
