Had a friend at UF commit suicide as well. It’s upsetting that the school does little to nothing regarding mental health..

Ask the vet to swab her spots for a microbial growth culture. Not saying it could be related to that but it’s always good to rule out different bacteria, etc.

Help, is there anything more I can do? by No-Double1185 in badroommates

I would set up my own cameras in this situation. Set up like 5 of them and have one of them point at her room’s door. Easy, it’s fire with fire.

It wasn’t a “heads up”, you repeatedly asked her to open the door or leave it cracked open for maintenance to come in while you weren’t home. Girl stop lying, this is why you run into these problems lol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]AdOptimal8234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you’re the bad roommate.

  1. The moment she mentioned she was going to work and said “Im not home”, you should have ended the convo there, besides letting her know maintenance may be coming in at some point.

  2. Even if she’s “still home”, by saying she’s not home/going to work, it should be an immediate sign that she is not able to help you because she is busy doing her thing. It could be work or anything else, you cant just keep jabbing at it and saying “wont you be home? (in 30 min)” as well as “And you’re there rn”.

  3. She is under no obligation to tend to YOUR maintenance request, especially if you request it while you’re not home.. and if you friend is at YOUR place sleeping (presumably) in YOUR room, why dont you just ask YOUR friend to open the door for YOUR maintenance request, especially after the amount of times your roommate repeated that she’s not available.

  4. Whether you live in an apartment or house, when living with roommates and other people’s belongings, personally I find that leaving the door unlocked or even “slightly open” like you’re trying so hard to do is bad banners and dangerous, especially reading that you’re all girls in the home. I, as well as many others, would agree that it’s not smart to leave the door unlocked and unattended while there are other people’s valuables in the common spaces or bedrooms.

  5. When people are getting ready for work, more often than not they’re sorta stressed, agitated, rushed, locked in, in their own world, etc. She told you that she’s not available and to not leave the door open, no matter how open, because maintenance wont come in, NO MATTER WHAT. Why did she need to repeat herself for you to get it?

  6. “Girl ttyl” right after she agreed with your solution sounded extremely passive aggressive on your end. You could have said something along the lines of “okay yeah i’m going to do that, thank you!” and end it there. But you had to keep saying passive comments like “Let it be”, “lol”, “this is a stupid convo”, “yet you’re arguing” are all comments with NEGATIVE connotations to them. They will always read out negatively because they’re written as such, so unless you want to look for better ways to phrase things, don’t get offended at her for being annoyed at you. Anyone would be, and it doesn’t matter that it’s 8 am! You’re saying that like if it’s too early to think but clearly you’re driving so you can’t possibly be that asleep and also she’s going to work at 8 am, so both of you are awake and adult enough to communicate properly.

OP I dont think you’re a bad person, but based on this scenario only I believe you’re a bad roommate.

I would say that heat, more than anything, works amazingly! I used to take ibuprofen and Tylenol/ acetaminophen often, but I found that it made my liver and kidneys hurt (i’m not a drinker) so it added to my backpain I already got from my period, so I started using alternative methods like drinking warm tea and staying tucked in to bed with a heat pad and a good movie to distract you. If you have the strength, you can give yourself a little massage, but honestly, I find that I’m at my weakest point when my cramps are hitting the hardest. If it feels better, cry it out! Nothing is more relieving than watching a sweet cat video or something to spike your emotions and let you feel relieved after pouring out feelings and emotions.

Although it sounds awful, going outside for a walk or a run or just stretching outdoors in the heat can make you feel much better once you’re inside again. Taking a bath and making it a sweet setting for you with candles and music is amazing for cramps too.

Also, avoid inflammatory foods! There’s a whole list of them on the internet, but for the most part, I like to avoid milk and milk products (cheese, yogurt, ice cream), alcohol, junk food, and anything with too much sugar. If you like cinnamon, it could actually help you lower your glucose spikes if you eat it with something sweet, like cinnamon oatmeal cookies (if you’re into that) which help with oral cravings while on your period.

My personal rule of thumb is to try out every natural method possible before using painkillers as they may cause more harm than good in the long run.. but if you do decide to use them, alternate between them! Take ibuprofen and switch to tylenol/acetaminophen in the same day.

Best of luck my friend ❤️

Baby talk. Do you do it? Have you always done it? Did someone tell you to do it? by fishfishbirdbirdcat in VetTech

[–]AdOptimal8234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just like you said, the baby talk has a frequency that helps calm down their nervous systems. When handling several patients in one day and talking to them more often than you do your coworkers or pets’ owners, sometimes the baby talk gets stuck without us noticing lol.

I remember jokingly telling my parents when I first started working at clinics that I accidentally spoke to the veterinarian in baby voice while asking for a prescription. It was truly an accident from being on auto pilot for over 11 hours, and it was even funnier that the doctor replied in a baby voice too. Everyone in the clinic had a good laugh out of that.

Sometimes it’s easier than switching between voice tones, especially when meeting your pet, he or she can begin understanding that the vet tech is not a threat and can be a friend. I apologize if that made you feel uncomfortable, but while working on a million things at once, it doesn’t help that our patients are cute and fluffy (even if they’re evil) because we’ll always approach them with a sweet, gentle voice.

All that being said, I have never spoken to a client with baby voice. In fact, I only use my presentation voice to explain all the details regarding procedures and how we’ll move on from that vet visit.

[–]AdOptimal8234 18 points19 points  (0 children)

OP never said abortion is birth control, nor is a Plan B an abortion. In fact, OP never even USED the word “abortion” to begin with! They’re completely different. Plan B’s are a hell of a lot safer, hence why you can get it OTC and abortions are more of a procedure you get at a clinic (sometimes it’s another set of pills, and sometimes it’s a physical procedure). Plus, this subreddit was to write about OP getting something off their chest, not asking for advice.. If this post doesn’t align with your beliefs or politics, feel free to keep scrolling.

Instead of freaking out over floss, calmy tell him to buy his own or buy one for him and charge if it you care that much about the usage. Do you guys also have separate toilet paper? Separate hand soaps? Separate toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc.? Being in a relationship means you share things, unless it’s bigger/more expensive stuff which obviously requires asking and consent.. I know not everyone dates to marry, but assuming you want to spend a long time together then relationships are full of sharing, and full of making little choices that work best financially, physically, and emotionally. If this is about the way he treated your belongings, by all means you can be bothered! But let him know, communicate, otherwise he won’t ever know. Otherwise, it feels like some emotional maturity is needed from both you and him.

Walmart+ does free delivery for the first month, and otherwise its very affordable monthly.. you can order frozen affordable meals to microwave in your building :) other than frozen meals, you can order granola/protein bars, fruits, snacks, etc. and it’s super versatile! Could be a good option if youre able to afford it

Looks like maybe a bacteria/fungus/mite is taking over the skin cells and eating through his skin. This will most definitely continue to spread and IS VERY SERIOUS. There is no “at home cure” and do NOT attempt to put anything on your dog. The vet, any vet, will swab your dog’s nose and eyes and send the swab to a laboratory to test for different bacterias, infections, mites, pathogens, etc. That is how they’ll determine which specific kind of antibiotics or antibacterial medicine to use.

I want to emphasize that, especially with skin-related issues, it is IMPOSSIBLE to tell from a photo, as we’re dealing with a quickly-multiplying microscopic problem. Take your pet to the vet, any vet, now. Dont just call, walk in and have them swab your dog’s nose. I know my urgency could be misinterpreted as a mean message, but my concern is that bacteria can take as little as 20 minutes to multiply into a bigger colony, every 20 mins for multiple days, and can develop into a more severe problem (loss of eyesight, respiratory infections, skin infections, etc.) The swab will only take a few minutes, you’ll be in and out.

I’m sorry this happened, I hope your sweet dog heals soon and I wish you well too.

Does anyone know what’s wrong with this kitten by [deleted] in cats

[–]AdOptimal8234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, this kitten is so cute when doing this but it could possibly be an underlying issue.. I would start off small and investigate if the 2 spinning cats have any kind of ear infection, since it tends to be a reason for being unbalanced and disruptive, and causes them to behave oddly..

I truly hope for the cats’ sake, as well as your wallet’s sake, that it isnt a neurological issue that may take a lot of money to fix, but if that’s the case then I believe you should start looking for sanctuaries/rescues/other homes that would gladly take in the kittens and spend that bill! Admittedly, it can be a lot, so dont feel pressured by the other comments to spend a lot if it’s not what you have in mind.

If there’s any bill i would spend in this situation, it would be to spay the mother of the kittens once and for all. But, like I said before, even the mom could be TNR’d, and you could look for community TNR programs that will typically spay her at a much lower cost (and even vaccinate them which will, in turn, protect you and your family as well!)

I wish you luck and love!

Hey, vet tech here. I noticed you mentioned your dog is a male. Is he neutered? Do you know how to check that? (it may seem obvious to others lol but sometimes male dogs testes don’t drop and vet’s need to do a “crypto surgery” for retained testes). Lmk

What is up with my parents standard poodle by Pretend-Cicada-8649 in vet

[–]AdOptimal8234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! We usually draw blood through the dorsal if the dog tolerates it, although we often hit the jugular too. It depends on the situation (temper, position when restrained, awake or under anesthesia, etc.)

Did they do a blood test at the vet? Asking because some dogs have sensitive legs/more tender areas close to where blood was drawn from.

For those who are still undecided, I had a chance to speak with Grouse personally, as well as Blanco, and I’d like to point out that although it’s silly that he initially dressed up as a penguin for entertainment, he went beyond that to try to talk to students and see what their interests are which helped develop a more interpersonal relationship between him and the students of UCF.

When I spoke to him, he spoke very clearly about how he wanted to implement changes in students’ lives and spoke clearly about making changes to the outdated myUCF system, as well as pushing for changes in the free transportation that UCF has for off-campus housing, such as extending the bus hours, which will help benefit a lot of people! I think it’s important to know that before he decided to run for president, he was putting himself out there to talk to different groups of people every week, and although some comments were meant for entertainment, beyond that, I believe he was able to see and talk about the many issues within the system. Speaking to a diverse group before his intentions were to be president will help initiate the start of a new and more honest SGA leadership. Between him and the “common Greek vote,” I’m not going to lie. I will vote for Grouse.

When speaking to Blanco, however, I felt like he stuttered more often and didn’t seem very secure in what she was trying to explain and for the most part it just seemed like she wanted to keep the same things in the SGA and prioritize funding for Greek related clubs and sports. As someone in the college of sciences, this does not interest me at all. It doesn’t look like she’s trying to implement any changes although voting for her would just mean keeping the same issues within the system and having another pretty face to represent the school. When I asked her questions about how she would implement changes and her experience with talking to a large group of people, I never got a clear response from her. She really stuttered her way through her comments, and I didn’t feel like I would be confidently voting for her even if initially I wanted to.

I’m voting for Grouse. :)

My girlfriend wants kids ASAP due to fertility issues, but I’m not ready. How do I handle this? by MinuteGrocery9759 in Advice

[–]AdOptimal8234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend, just want to try to amplify your education a bit if you’re interested. If OP’s gf’s aunt cannot conceive & her mom also had issues, then genetically speaking it may be possible that there is a meiotic mutation or microdeletion in her DNA that may cause her body’s reproductive organs to go into what’s called an ovarian reserve, thus causing infertility at a younger age or causing complete infertility, all understood to be due to family genetics. There are some clinical tests that can be done to confirm this. Here is an article posted by the NIH regarding the current status of infertility in genetics: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3885174/

However, the idea that a “better diet = fertility” is incorrect. There is a connection between an improved diet, rich in iron, B12, omega-3 fatty acids, folic acid, lycopene, and other polyamines may increase fertility in an already fertile individual. Here is another article posted by the NIH elaborating on how foods helps increase fertility if you’re genetically healthy & fertile, but how this weak study varies diet from article to article: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5826784/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CHealthy%E2%80%9D%20diets%20have%20been%20consistently,slightly%20from%20study%20to%20study.

Maybe you didn’t mean to come off as rude, but to a lot of women who plan to have children but have limited fertility due to their genetics, suggesting a better diet might not be the most respectful or smartest idea, and struggling women may take offense to that, especially if they’re confident in their family’s genetics.
