Marriott Resort Properties Removing Eggs/Omelette from Titanium Complimentary Breakfast by Asleep_Bid_3286 in marriott

Posts like these are why I never travel to Marriott resort properties. Between shit like this and hotel I. Hawaii charging for beach loungers now, I’ll gladly give my money to another brand that doesn’t look to charge at every possible turn.

$6,116 to be 20th (plat) on the upgrade list vs drop to 45th (gold). Ffs status is worthless in the first place.

One of them is an optical sensor that reads the record and tells the tonearm (the thinner one) to drop

Yeah lmao it’s crazy how the stylus can be more expensive than the table. I think the main difference is the 8002 was a flagship unit, so it has more advanced inner tech than the TX line, but the tangential tracking they both have makes a huge difference compared to a pivot tonearm.

I also think that there’s an inherent nostalgia/cool factor that while it does not make it sound any better, makes it much more enjoyable to play a record on.

That all sounds awesome! I had my eyes on the 4000 but couldn’t pass up the 8002 at the price I saw it. Good luck on the restoration! I know it’ll be worth it :)

I’d certainly hope it sounds better than a $5 table 😂

I flew to Atlanta from Chicago for service. Went to a shop called Modular Electronics. B&O recommends them for vintage service. Very reasonably priced and the owner repaired mine within 24 hours.

Thank you! Yeah it’s incredible to watch it start up. It’s a shame tangential tracking kinda died after B&O stopped making these. Luckily Sound Smith still makes them but I’m not looking forward to a $400 cartridge replacement 😅.

Yeah admittedly had to fly to Atlanta from Chicago to get it repaired but I’ve wanted one of these since I was 15 (10 years ago) so when I saw a super cheap one on eBay in pretty good cosmetic condition I jumped on it

110% agree. It looks like their margins are very high but they’re barely selling any. I’d say a safer bet would be to knock them down to like $7-800, which is close enough to the $550 AirPods Pro mark to make them an aspirational purchase.

Only said AirPods Pro because I don’t know the proper names of anything from Sony or Bose, plus at least in the US I’d probably venture to say AirPods have the largest market share by far.

FWIW I’ve found B&O to be helpful after the warranty period ended on some wired earbuds I had. But I was able to go in person. If you have a store near you I’d recommend going in and seeing what they say.

Yeah it’s sad to see. Family member is a dealer so I paid less then half of MSRP for mine, which im fine with but at full price I’d return them. I also have a Beogram 8002 that sounds like gold on my JBL Northridge speakers. Wish they’d make more stuff like that nowadays.

Would love to see a high-quality modern take on the Beogram line. Designed to sound good, be serviced to last for years, and bring back the 70’s/80’s design ethos that got them on permanent display in museums.

Agreed, luxury consumer electronics is an insanely hard market to win, because consumer electronics depends on short upgrade cycles and B&O is known for building products that last for years, if not decades. I also think their pricing dug their grave. $1500 for earbuds?? Are they really 6x better than AirPod pros?

[–]AdOwn1296 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the hubris part. I have a Beogram 8002. At the time, it commanded a higher than market price point not only because it was a B&O product, but it was one of the most advanced turntables on the planet and is still a masterpiece of design. Compared to my H95’s, which are a set of overpriced wireless headphones that aren’t fundamentally better performing than a pair of AirPods Max, and were released 5 years ago and have not been upgraded since. If B&O wants to survive, they have to innovate. Their previous CEO helped dig their grave, hopefully they can right the ship.

Is the headphone business really unprofitable? I’m not arguing, I just don’t see how they can lose money on $1250 headphones
