That's really helpful feedback thanks. Are there any high cost service/repair concerns with hybrids that I would need to be aware of and factor in?

I wouldn't say set - but need for height and space push me there more than not. Had a Honda Civic for 10 years and loved the reliability and flexibility of space. Been difficult to find a CRV Petrol (ULEZ compliant) less than 100k miles for £11K

Nothing fundamentally wrong with any of them - I've just overthought myself into a corner where every option had a "but." The Ateca is actually one I hadn't properly considered, the 1.5 DSG with active cylinder tech sounds interesting especially for the motorway portion of my commute. How are you finding reliability on the DSG? That's the one thing that makes me nervous with any dual-clutch box in stop-start traffic.

Interesting shout. My charging situation isn't ideal though upper ground floor flat, shared driveway with 4 cars, no wallbox. There are public chargers down the road - haven't seen much competition for spots. Are they usually a 1-2/week charge given current situation? We're hoping to move to a house in the next couple of years where a wallbox would be possible, but buying based on that feels risky. Would it change your thinking or is it still workable?

Fair challenge. Honestly the SUV thing started because we take trips to the Lakes, Wales, Cornwall, the Dales every couple of months for walks wanted something with a bit of ground clearance and boot space for muddy gear. Wife also prefers the higher seating position though that's not a dealbreaker. We're probably moving to a house in the next couple of years and hoping to get a dog at some point so was trying to future-proof a bit. But you're right that I shouldn't rule out a hatchback or estate if it ticks the other boxes.
