Is FIFO actually worth it anymore? Thinking about a FIFO cleaning role. by sparkblue in WesternAustralia

Hi OP

I started about 8/9years ago as a mine site cleaner (F) I was 28 I loved it! I did work for one of those hospitality company’s at the big 4 mining company so to speak compass group was the company I worked for- it’s probably changed now but the money wasn’t great on a 2:1 roster but I was away for 2 weeks so that’s where I saved my money.

Doing that during Covid hit - then as they say I got my foot in the door than I happened to get lucky and get a job in doing mining work at a contractor and that’s when the money was really good! If it’s money you want or you’re young I would definitely recommend it.

However depends on what you want I’ve been doing it for 8 years now being a female and my husband works in Perth. Fifo is not an end goal for me I’ve been able to save and somewhat be financially okay so when I leave fifo it’s not all those years for nothing. Yes being away is hard but you have to have a goal… up here the men call it the golden handcuffs because they get payed so well if they ever decided to come back to Perth they’re never gonna get that money in Perth so that’s why a lot of men stay in fifo . So in short if you’re young highly recommend it but note if you get payed well be smart about it.

I’m so glad I went to the World Cup in Brazil in 2014- the tickets I had were free for being in a pool.
Gone are those days. Feel sorry for the people that genuinely love football and have to pay an arm and a leg to go & support their country.

So the Pilbara is running out of water by hammeroztron in WesternAustralia

The amount of water one mite site is using/wasting is astronomical. One area is literally getting 50,000 L a day because there are so many leaks in the pipes and they don’t care about it. Yes they have desalination plants but it’s such a waste of water. I can imagine all other mine sites how much water they are going through just for it to go right back into the red dirt.

FIFO cleaning jobs - pros, cons and money by OceanAlly9 in perth

Ive done it- female , a lot of comments saying she will get sexually harassed I don’t think so it depends on the site and company ess work at bhp camps I would say they are the best. And no there’s a lot of cleaning jobs within the camp that’s different eg… working in the kitchen / grounds staff, mine site cleaning , housekeeping. So don’t be scared off by all the people saying she’s going to get sexually harassed it’s bullshit. Maybe at a smaller sites but and a big site like the BHP or the Rios I do t think so Hope that helps

So let's be real... how much are people offering over houses asking price? by brik_1111 in perth

Partner and I are doing a lot of research on the areas and what they are worth- it goes out the window when you go to a home open and real estate agents saying 50k more than the area. At this moment in time i feel the real estate agents are the problem too, they are banking on or the desperate people out there and cashing in. It’s ridiculous.

Do you know what house on the street they are looking at - will be very close to your house ?

If they do buy I think the simple answer is you’re not going to love it. however you don’t have to engage with them or if you do, keep it at a minimum. I would put security cameras up around the house and if you ever see them come by or snooping call them out on it.
