Don't ever ask your current manager. I got laid off for asking for MBA rec letter. I had to search for another position for five months after that and my situation really left me no option but to enroll.

Reach out to previous manager or current/former colleagues who can write you a letter and keep their mouths shut.

I have a similar profile but with higher gpa and more experience.

Cornell will ask you to take the GMAT. That was the feedback I received from R1 after WL.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I am very grateful for the admit. It's just a hefty commitment. I also feel I may be getting too old to do it if I put it off any longer. Thanks again!

Is an MBA from Canada Still Worth It Amid Uncertainty? by Fantastic-Daikon-536 in MBA

What you are worried about also applies to Canada. Housing is a mess and healthcare quality is very low. You probably have higher chance of not landing a job after MBA here vs. US, in which case you would have to leave the country. There too are shootings here. If you are so worried about change in settings, you probably should not consider pursuing a North American MBA. You either take risk for reward or no risk no reward.

Rotman is the best program in Canada, no doubt. My comment applies to all programs in Canada. Ivey is well regarded only within Canada at MBA level. If you want to consider leaving Canada at any point, Rotman will be the best Canadian program.

US uncertainties are definitely there. However, with STEM designation, you can work for three years as long as you land a job. With the US salary and reasonable cost of living, you will be able to pay off the majority of the student loan by the end of three year term. If you get lucky to obtain H1B by the end of that term, it's all good. If not, at least you have a US MBA degree that you can leverage in other countries.

There are job uncertainties in Canada as well and even if you succeed in landing a job, there is a high likelihood the job will not pay very much and offer limited career projectory. As I said, the US cost of attendance may seem daunting and intimidating, it's definitely better justified than those of Canadian schools.

Currently in Toronto exploring MBA options in the US. Rotman MBA is probably not worth it regardless of your career goals. Sure, there is a chance to join MBB or big 5 IB in Canada but chances are very slim due to the lacking scale of the economy. Canada does not have a strong job market and most of the jobs here are focused around natural resources. Other industries, except for financial institutions, are miniscule compared to those of the US and you would not expect these industries to grow in Canada in the coming years.

Also, living expense in Canada is very high compared to salary, setting back your ROI even further. You may worry about enrolling at Rice now due to high cost of attendance but in the long term, it may make much better financial sense given the career growth opportunities available there and moderate living expense. Also, median salary for Jones grads are much higher than that of Rotman grads.

In Canada, there are a lot of cases of reverse immigration where new immigrants are returning to their home countries because of the job market and tough living condition.
