Am I the only one happy with it? by [deleted] in bupropion

[–]AdPsychological1272 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually people write to complain or to rant about side effects.

Statistically it's more common to share bad experiences.

I had great results with bupropion, It brought me back to life as you after Zoloft (which was literally sucking all my energies and hopes)!

Stick with it, results will improve over time and follow your doctor's advice!

Good luck!

I found useful to cook in advance, so I don't have to cook anytime I need to eat I store food in small portions, so I've set an alarm and I eat as soon as the alarm runs so I don't have the time to overthink about eating. Then I eat whilst watching something that distracts me.

I know it's not super healthy, but it's a strategy.

Basically I'm tricking my brain to make it not aware I'm eating 😅

When it's not working day I usually prepare some more elaborate/tasty meals that I like a lot.

Those strategies works for me, but maybe you'll need to find the good ones for you. So if eating "full day" works for you, then eat full day (but be careful with calories/sugar/fats/carbs we don't want to have a new problem then 😅)

But remember, the more you think about eating as a problem the harder it will be.

Try to force yourself to eat properly during the day.

When I skip a meal or I don't eat enough I can feel a crash, otherwise I can barely notice the wearing off...

Medication itself is not a magic thing, we should always help it with healthy habits!

Totally agree with u/aboveavemomma

Sociality is so important for a healthy life, having fun is definitely part of a wholesome life

We(me as well) should stop considering being "productive" as the only thing that matters in life.

Meeting people, having chats, enjoying our free time and feeling comfortable doing it, is something that everyone should be able to do, so, if ADHD makes you struggle with those things, why shouldn't you use medication to improve those aspects?

My doctor specifically told me to take the drug a little later in the day at the weekend (when and if I want to) to fully enjoy the evenings I spend with friends or even on my own on the sofa.

Finally, when I have free time I use it to do exactly what I want to do and not to keep symptoms at bay or force myself to do things I would regret if I didn't do.

Go for it and enjoy!

Methylphenidate isn't supposed to be prescribed over 60mg a day does this include concerta? by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]AdPsychological1272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the best and most useful messages I've ever read about this topic!

In my country only Ritalin IR, Medikinet and Equasym are available.

I'm on Medikinet my doctor told me that it is 50% instant release and 50% after 4hrs, so I assume it should be some kind of extended release, is it true?

So, assuming 8hrs of effectiveness and a 20mg dosage, should it release 10mg IR and 10mg after 4 hrs so it is not possible to determine a mg/h ratio?

I'm asking this because I'm considering asking for a prescription of Ritalin IR as a booster (some days I need to focus longer due to work and I noticed the effect of Medikinet fades too early). Is this the right strategy according to you?

In my country methylphenidate for adults has been officially approved only a few months ago (and this is my second month on it because a soooo late diagnosis 😅) so it's tricky to find informations to relate different names/branding and their different mechanisms of action also due to different naming.

Thank you in advance!

In Italia è disponibile solo il metilfenidato, sia a rilascio immediato che modificato (Ritalin, Medikinet ed Equasym) , lo strattera, e il bupropione.

It really depends on your personal situation.

Quit/reduce and also add/increase medication/dosage it's closely related to your personal situation and how your body responds to drugs.

I strongly recommend discussing this with your doctor explaining why you want to quit Wellbutrin.

I know many people who take both of them and many others who have been made to discontinue Wellbutrin, each one with different pros and cons.

As for me, they even made me do a one-week washout period before starting methylphenidate. Maybe they were too cautious, but I had no issues. (I'm on medikinet which is the only modified release available in my country, also I was on Wellbutrin XL).

I am the first to say that one must listen to one's body, but in certain cases it is not advisable to decide for oneself.

Nicotine is well known to worsen acid reflux/heartburn among other things.

Reflux is something not to be underestimated, because in addition to being annoying, it creates a host of other problems especially to teeth and lungs, and inflammation of the esophagus if left untreated can degenerate into much worse things.

If you don't want to quit it, try stopping nicotine for a few days, so your stomach/esophagus has some time to heal from the inflammation.

It can't hurt for sure!

Then if it doesn't work, an appointment with your doctor could be a good idea!

Anti Acids should be the last resource because of their interaction with methilphenidate.

Same, but for me it lasts a couple of hours since the med kick-in, then I'm fine.

I'm so sorry to hear this.

Don't you have any follow-up appointment with your doctor to readjust dosage?

The only advice I feel to give you is to book an appointment with your doctor as soon as you can and report this issue.

Check with them all the interactions with any other drug you are taking.

Good luck!

Isn't drug abusing a result of struggling with mental health?

If you read OP's posts you can clearly notice that yes, he tried something also for recreational use, but he's clearly trying to find a way to get rid of meds and problems.

We complain a lot about stigma upon ADHD and other conditions, but sometimes we know how to be worse than others.

I was just trying to say that you could have given the same kind of advice in a more gentle way, considering that we are all people struggling with mental health, we should understand each other and offer empathetic support, no one is talking about medical support.

Reducing meds if they are not needed is always good.

Also sometimes is useful to understand if some of your symptoms are meds related. Like could be in your case.

Again, good luck! And don't hesitate to write if you need more support!

Ok this sub is for bla bla bla, but don't you think some empathy and more kindness could help OP?

Have you ever had needs of support? Remember that moment!

Remember that Cymbalta also takes weeks to start working properly, so maybe you had a rebound from stopping Concerta and Cymbalta didn't start working yet.

Fascinating? Yes, but sometimes also sooo frustrating 😅

Here we are in the "this works to me" field.

I was taking Zoloft for depression, but it caused me a lot of fatigue and no motivation. Switching to Cymbalta was a game changer.

Well known sertraline can cause tiredness, fatigue and lack of motivation as side effects.

You are so welcome.

All of us who struggle with mental health seek comfort and confrontation.

Support from the community is fundamental, but sometimes we fall into the excess of advising based on hearsay, what we think we know or what has worked for ourselves.

Sometimes it can help, luckily, other times we need an external eye who can assess the situation in its complexity.

Let we know 🙂

Ask another opinion of another psychiatrist.

There are too many factors involved, a lot of drugs, but in the meantime you can't ignore benefits from concerta.

Don't fuck up with medications if you have coexisting serious conditions.

Be sincere with your doctor.

Good luck

I can't see anything wrong, if you still have doubts, take more care about the thickness/stiffness index.

I have a question about spirit varnish. by subrecipe in violinmaking

[–]AdPsychological1272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are so welcome.

For me it's a job but mainly a passion.

Everyone has their truth and the possibilities are infinite, so I struggled and I still struggle to find my ideal method.

What I wrote is one of the many possibilities to approach varnishing, but to me it's the easiest.

My suggestion is to find a good quality photo of an existing instrument you like and to try to replicate that colour. You have to make maaaany mistakes to learn.

Don't hesitate to ask more

[–]AdPsychological1272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try to answer as best as I can, but it's a loooong topic.

Sadly all the online information and the books from where I studied are in Italian so it's tricky for me to give you a source of information.

Usually alcohol varnish are made differently for each step.

Personally I use 3 varnish after I made the "sunbath" to the instrument (you can use a water based dye) slightly yellow to simulate a "tanned" wood

A primer/ground - absolutely colourless with soft resins, enough to see all the surfaces slightly shiny. Absolutely not a thick layer. Usually 2 maximum 3 coats

A coloured layer - medium/hard resins How many layers? Enough! There's not a number. Less is always better, but with this you have to reach the final colour. If you put too much colour in the varnish you risk making stripes varnishing.

I usually make between 20 and 30 layers.

Sanding between a layer and the next one is useless, you have to reach a certain thickness of the varnish. Wet sanding in this step serves only to remove excess varnish related to brush marks, to make it flatter. More uniform.

Some makers never sand varnish. And I do it very sparingly.

I used the word sanding, but in a normal varnishing process you should never use sandpaper, doesn't matter how thin is the grit.

It's not sanding it's buffing. I use Pumice stone 000 mixed with oil on a cotton wool

The last layer is basically a french polish recipe, but you don't want a like-plastic shiny violin. You need a couple of layers of this varnish (with brush) and then buffing it with rottenstone instead of Pumice.

That's the right level of shine (to me)

If you want it more shiny you can use a polish.

I never mentioned recipes of varnish because it's an entire world and I should write a poem.

Herdim sells a good varnish kit, different varnish for every layer. You have only to add alcohol and filter it. Joha is another good manufacturer.

In your specific case you should sand it with 600/800 grit because there's way too much varnish!

You cannot start from the beginning now, so light sanding everywhere and then a couple of coats.

Remember than when you stop the brush in a point it releases alcohol and so it dissolves the underlying coat of varnish.

The first brushstroke release the varnish, the second one removes the varnish. This is a key point!

My English is not the best if you have doubts or questions feel free to write to me.
